Being admitted to hospital tomorrow

What exactly is entailed in "bowel rest"? How long will you be in the hospital?

that's what i did in the hospital. it was hard the first few days because all i thought about was food, but after 7 days, i didn't even get hungy anymore.

Sorry for the bad news. Please take it easy and try to be stress free if that's possible :(

Thank you SO much everyone! They didn't finish my flex sig until after 5:00 yesterday so we are just waiting on the go ahead to head to the hospital after all the paperwork is set up this am.

Wow, what a long day for you! I hope things turn around so that you're able to start healing and feeling much better soon.

I'm sure it'll be stressful for you emotionally, but obviously the docs believe it the best thing for you at this time.

Hi all! I'm here and settled. Didn't realize I would be so emotional about all this. I have a 6 year old and it is very hard being away from him. My parents totally have it under control but is still tough!

This is probably going to be way too much info but I'm bored and need something to do!

My regular GI and his PA came in first. He wasn't on call but still came in to meet me. I have a good one :)

New plan of attack:
-iv steroids
-tpn
-switch from colazal to asacol
-add florastor
-stop humira. wait 3 weeks start remicade
-corenema in am, rowasa in pm

I had my first picc line. Can't say that I enjoyed that. They have already done a ton of bloodwork. The on call GI is getting a prometheus to ck my Imuran level. I met w/ him too. The nurses declared me their most popular patient :)

I then met w/ a nutritionist. The plan is to start TPN via iv here. Then continue at home w/ a home health care nurse helping me w/ that part. So the bad news is no food or water for 2 weeks. Ugh! The tpn will be done at night so I will be free to move around during the day. Well except for the picc line knocking against my arm!

I'm sorry you're feeling so icky. A bowl rest is what put me into remission (FINALLY). I did 6 days of TPN and NOTHING by mouth. After that my GI did a scope and everything was healed.
You'll eventually appreciate the PICC line. For the first day and a half I had the IV in my hand and it was so incredibly painful.

Hey guys! Still here. Hmm the whole getting rest thing is difficult at the hospital when they are poking you all night!

Did my first night of tpn. Was kind of a pain and I had to tinkle constantly. I'll get used to it. A nurse will come to my house to help me do it when I get home. I am STARVING! I got the okay for sips of water today. Yippee!

And you can imagine how fun 80 mgs of pred is. I get 40 twice a day via syringe.

At first I was hating the picc line but it makes things much easier! They just do the blood and meds there.

They have me doing rowasa at night and cortenema in the am.

Think that is about it. I'm tired but hanging in there :)

One thing about being in the hospital....you're there being treated without any life distractions and trying to juggle everything yourself.

Full force meds...good they've added the rectals too.

So, are you having bms at all?

I hope this helps you but I feel for you having to leave your kid.  That would  be very hard for me.  I would also be going crazy.  The first day or two I would love because no kids would be bugging me or husband but then reading and sleeping would get old.  Hang in there.  I am on remicade and it has helped me alot.  I hope it works.
