Looking for a job while on remicade

 I am in remission but I do will have to take off every eight weeks for about 3-4 hours during the day since getting the infusions is unavailable at off hours.   Do I tell the prospective employer? I know you are allowed in many cases to take off time here and there when you work full time, but that's usually because of random reasons, not something that is expected and on a regular basis. Before I lost my previous job because the business was sold I didn't have this problem because I always had Mondays off. Now I'm really concerned.  What do other Remicade users do about work?

Actually some hospitals have infusion center open on Sat. So you should check around. You are not bound to get your infusion where your GI recommends. You get it where you can get it. It's your decision. I luckily have a Friday evening off in week, but as back up plan I also have a hospital another 30 min away that has it's ambulatory division open on Sat mornings.

The way I look at it is that everyone has something that in their lives at one point or another requires them to take time off of work, which is why there is personal/sick/vacation time for full time jobs (at least I hope there is). Companies do not require people to disclose if they have children or not, children need to go to the Doctors they get sick. 

You only need to take 6 1/2 days off in a year, which is really nothing.  Also, I am doing my remi this Friday which is a paid company holiday, I have used up my sick/personal already and can use my vaca time but this was just convenient.

I wouldn't say a thing, it is no one's business.

I do not think it's wise to bring this up in an interview and I agree with Beth; try to find a hospital or center where you can get this done on weekends. After you have been employed for a while you might switch your days, offer to come in early on infusion days so that you work your full 8 hours.

my employer is fine with it. i told her at my interview that i go to the doctor's office at least once a week and that i usually know all my appointments 2 weeks in advance. luckily, she's only open 3 days a week so i have a few week days to chose from to schedule my infusions. employers like knowing stuff way in advance so i think it actually works out for you that the infusion schedule is so precise.

Unfortunately, no place even remotely close by to me, even the hospital, has off hours. My Gastro even looked into the home infusions and they also only do it on a 9-5pm basis. I'm starting to see the same thing with all doctors and dentists now. Used to be they'd have a late night or occasionally Saturday. I think if I had already been working someplace and then had to start the remicade process, they would be fine with it, but a new hire why would they put up with that when there are so many healthy people needing work? Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to have my life back with the remicade, but I hate the process. My infusion center won't even start mixing the stuff (because it's so expenisve to make) until I've sat down and had my blood test--the whole thing takes hours.

Don't tell them. You should have vacation and/or sick days if it's a full-time job that you can use to get the infusions.
