so i'm at the mall earlier and i had just eaten dinner... which of course meant a trip to the restroom. so i'm doing my thing and all of a sudden there's a knock at the door to my stall and a rude voice calls in "ARE YOU ALMOST DONE IN THERE?!" seeing as this is usually the question of rude people who think their restroom needs are more important than anyone else's, my response was "CAN I HELP YOU?" the response i got angered me to no end. the voice replied "YES! YOU CAN GET OUT OF THE BATHROOM! i have to clear it and you're the only one left. ARE YOU ALMOST DONE?" my response was "NO! i'm going to the bathroom."

...needless to say when i finally exited the restroom, there was a line of women giving me the evil eye and i was later told by one of them that the mall employees had told them that things were taking so long because there was a woman in the restroom who was refusing to leave! HOW INSENSITIVE CAN PEOPLE BE?????????

I can't type what I would have yelled in response....seems appropriate to put in a complaint at the mall, however.

What was the reason the bathroom needed to clear you out...to clean it?

And what would the women have been giving you the evil eye about?

was there only one toilet?
If so then imagine if you were the person waiting (I've been in that position) and waiting even one minute can be horrible if you have an urgent need.
One of my nightmares is going to a public toilet and seeing a line of people. Yikes.
Some women have urinary problems with an urgent need to pee.
My UC has made me more aware that many people have problems I can't see or detect, just like me.

I am sorry for how you were made to feel. The people waiting have no idea what you go through daily.

It's a shame there were not more stalls. What was the mall thinking when they put in bathrooms?

If they heard me go, they'd probably run out the door. Grunting and groaning farting, squirting and I bet they wouldn't even want to go in there. LOL...I would have scared them away for sure. LOL oh well.

Their problem. Worst case they could have rushed out to another bathroom or used the men's. If you gotta go, you gotta go - not stand and ***** around.

They should try visiting Russia. There 90% of the toilets are closed, the ones that are open are for patrons only and are locked with a key you have to ask the store owner for. Usually you also have to pay about ~$1 fee to use - if you don't pay, you poop your pants. And good luck finding one that isn't taken or has TP.

In USA there's a toilet EVERYWHERE and they're all free and accessible, to the point that people think they have the right to complain about availability. It is a little ridiculous TBH

lol Stoolie, that's me too when I am flaring.

I hate when there is only one stall! I don't think any public bathroom should have one stall.

there were about 30 stalls! apparently they need to clear out the bathrooms at specified times throughout the day in order to clean them... one of the specified times seems to for some unknown reason be 7:30 on a Friday Night (when the mall is super busy!)

That's ridiculous for them to give you trouble when there were so many other stalls. People just don't understand that not everyone can get in and out in 10 seconds. Very annoying.

Haha ive had this happen, when i walk out they see all my tattoos and how im staring at everyone an they kinda just look the other way :)

Uugh what a loser that person is, obvi their life sucks so much that they must have to treat people like dirt in order to make themselves feel better.  Still makes me mad!

I made a mad dash this summer it was not really uc related, but something I ate just hit me wrong and I ran to the bathroom and while I emptied my entire colon in rapid bursts into the toilet some 3 year old was banging on the door trying to get in and I kept on saying just a minute and the mother seemed to me to be unconcerned and said a couple of times not to do that to her kid....... as I left the bathroom the mother gave me a half ass apology, I just left it wouldn't have been worth any type of conversation, wasn't like I was going to change anything about her future behavoir.....even if she did not care, she could have made a genuine apology.  I hope I am never like that when I have kids.

I would definitely complain to the mall manager, the employee is apparently unaware of customer service, that should have been a judgment call to lat the others go, wait for you and then hope for a break in the action. They should be able to clean with people in there anyway. Definitely report it.

Wow, what a stupid set up....the malls where I live have cleaners in them while the public is in them and it's never been an issue, they just clean which ever stalls are empty and then go to the ones that people have finished using, and they never knock or disturb anyone in a stall. In fact, one of my recent trips to the mall there was a girl/young lady obviously throwing up and one of the cleaners as well as some of the other people gently asked if she was okay or if she needed any help.

the sad thing is, i live in a disabilities dorm with only one bathroom stall for the floor and in instances where i spend longer in the bathroom (like just now for instance), they are so sweet about it. mostly don't say anything but if they hear groaning or panting (due to the sweating), they'll ask if there's anything they can do. SERIOUSLY?!?! one stall vs. 30 and i'm treated better where there's only 1 stall!!!!!!

Somehow you get a lot more tolerant of kids once you have your own. Not saying you were wrong to be upset. Just saying that once you have a 3-year-old of your own, you realize that getting them to quit doing stuff like that is a lot easier said than done   :-)

Yup, that has happened to me around 3 PM on weekdays, very annoying! Apparently the cleaning staff quit work at 4 PM in this bldg.-- so they get miffed if anyone is using a stall when they do their final round of sweeping or whatever. But I also noticed that some of them make cell phone calls while working in the stalls ... another form of rudeness, lol. / Old Hat (31 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

One more vote.

Once I had similar experience in men's room and I offered the guy to share the toilet, he kept quite till I finished my job.

But honestly, you can not make these people understand what it feels like to be a UC patient, even one of my family member told my story as a big joke when I went through urgency during our travel. It was very annoying but you can't really do much, can you?

LOL Quincy, that's because you don't live in Alberta!!! Granted I can guarantee not ALL public bathrooms (mall or not) are constantly kept clean but at least I pretty much know which ones to avoid.
