Question for those who have gotten pregnant with UC

Just got the ok's from all my Doc's, felt like an obstacle course but glad I am doing well and that they are supportive.  Having kidney disease and uc I have been told that it can make it a bit more difficult to conceive having each of these diseases individually.  However, my kidneys and uc are doing pretty well. Just wondering how long it took for others to get pregnant?  My husband thinks it will be in the first month......he's just really positive ; )

It took me 4 years to get to this stage and I am scared to be excited as nothing in my life is ever easy, but also trying not to think about it too much and get myself stressed.  Trying to focus on other things such as continuing to get healthier since being of pred since the summer and hoping my body will be strong enough and I can fit it all my old ski gear soon.  I bought new ski's a few years ago, hoping I would be able to get back into it then.

My uc Doc did tell me that 1/3 get worse, 1/3 stay the same and 1/3 get better.  I of course hope to stay the same or be better.

How exciting! We got pregnant the 2nd month. I was in the 1/3 that got better. No UC symptoms or meds while pregnant. I did flare about 3 weeks after birth but I had a very easy, uneventful pregnancy.

I had both of my children while having UC. Got pregnant quickly with both. With my first, I didn't know I had UC and everything went smoothly. I got pregnant(surprise!) with my second child while in a bad flare. My flare continued through the 1st trimester. Then I became one of the 1/3 that get better while pregnant. I continued with my prenatal vitamins, fish oil and probiotics throughout the pregnancy and didn't think about UC at all for the last 2/3 of it. :-)

My GI said that there is a 5-10% chance of a child developing UC if one parent has it, and a 50% chance if both parents have it.

I didn't mean to get pregnant, we were planning on starting to try in janurary, but thanks to pred messing up my bc pill I got pregnant in september. It was awesome being pregnant, I loved it. I was perfectly healthy the whole time. I had a few small problems, non uc related. I will say that some of the meds that cause easy bleeding can make you have spotting and bleeding while pregnant, which is really scary, that happened to me a few times before the ob and I put together what was causing it. I don't know if remi is a thinner or not. If it is you need to see abou getting a vit k shot before delivery, I did and even with it I bled a lot! Delivery was scary and had a few problems, but non uc related. I would suggest also taking some extra folic acid, it helps negate any brain and spinal related birth defect chances fromsome of the meds. But you need to bhe taking it before you get pregnant. You can't overdose on it unless you took like a whole bottle so it won't hurt you.

It was difficult for me to get pregnant the first time but while pregnant i felt amazing - and took no meds.  I got pregnant 5 months after giving birth to me first child and again felt great!  Good Luck!

I had three kids through the 14 years I had UC.  My disease remained in remission ONLY with meds, so I took Imuran for the duration of my pregnancies and had three healthy pregnancies and three beautiful healthy children. 

I believe I am in the third that gets worse, as once I was not on the proper dose of Imuran and did flare with #3 before they bumped me back up.  Another time I was not on imuran at all and flared so bad I had a miscarriage. 

Everyone is different in pregnancy, but my doctor did tell me that it's worse to flare than take meds because flaring colons do not absorb nutrients properly.  Babies have more of a chance of being born with problems without proper nutrient absorption.

We had a forum member in Australia-- what was her site name? I think it was Kazygirl. Anyway, she had a baby girl about 1 1/2 yrs ago after many flares. As I recall, she posted that an iron infusion during pregnancy helped her to get to remission. So Beth-- wish you the good luck that many females posting here benefit from while preggers. / Old Hat (31 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

I didn't start getting uc symptoms until I was about five months pregnant with my third(and last) child.  So, I am no help there.  I just wanted to say good luck.  Try not to stress out and worry about it.  I hope you get pregnant right away and your uc symptoms go away while you are pregnant(and after yeah ).  Good luck.

I went into remission with both my pregnancies and stayed there until I was done breastfeeding each kid. My GI was so excited, he wanted me to have 10 babies!

I got pregnant the first month with both of mine and went into remission both times at around 9-10 weeks. I went back into a flare when my first was 8 months which lasted until I got pregnant with my second. I started flaring when my second was 6 weeks and finally got out of it when he turned 6 months. I breastfed both of them with no problems on Lialda and Rowasa. All the best to you!

I won't bore you with my UC pregnancy stories, but the end result were two healthy girls! I didn't have a hard time getting pregnant, took about 3 or 4 months of trying each time. I know all the docs say it is best to go into a pregnancy as healthy as possible and to wait until you are in remission for awhile, sounds like that is where you are. Considering how many people get pregnant without even trying, all the care you are taking to ensure a good pregnancy I am sure will pan out with a healthy mom and baby. I got pregnant right away and felt great throughout most of my pregnancy, but I flared like crazy after I had my daughter. There was definitely a connection between lactating and flaring for me. I had to run to the bathroom every time I breastfed. Ended up in the hospital with horrible dehydration. Went on prednisone and stopped breastfeeding but I was basically sick for almost two years.
