Help! External hemmie?

I have a lump, feels like a cyst under the skin about an inch in diamater, the skin is very tender.  I noticed it a bit yesteray but can really feel it today. It is a few inches away from my anus.  I have been having monumental log poops lately and some have hurt coming out.  I don't know what it is?  I have had hemmies before but those were by my anus and felt different.

any ideas?

I want to clarify that I've had no medical training but have had lots of experience with hemmies. No fun... Does your medication cause constipation?
If you don't think your problem warrants an ER (or doctor) visit, things you could try:

-epsom salt warm baths always help me
-have also applied over-the-counter cortizone cream to sore areas
-witch hazel helps to shrink hemmies

After years of UC, hemmies became a real problem. Lost a lot of blood but wasn't sure of the source. Went to a surgeon who tied them off with rubber bands (no surgery).
No more bleeding. If I feel like constipation is coming on, I make homemade chicken soup with veggies and eat it for a day or two. Helps a lot.

Also have been using baby wipes (with no alcohol) after bm's to insure that the area stays clean.

I think drinking a LOT of water also helps to soften bm's.

I had one (hemi) lanced it was so bad. Wiped with Prep H for a few days till it healed. But hot baths and any external pain ointment should help until you see a doc or med. pro.

I don't know if a hemmie would happen a few inches from your anus...is it above, to the side?

It could be a cyst or an abscess...

Anything in that area externally will cause extreme pain. When my external hemmie happens, it can sometimes cause excrutiatingly sharp pain into my buttock or to the tailbone.

If you have anything such as lanocaine it might help....the sitz bath is a great idea for whatever it might be.

Do get it checked out Beth....

Have you taken a look yourself?

Let us know what's happening....sheesh, this crap can be so never ending for sume. Hope this doesn't continue for you....a break is badly needed.

I had something like his once, and in hospital they had a look at it and i felt a little prick and then he fumbled around a bit and it was gone, lucky I didn't know they were going to do anything, or I would have died with fear.

Get it checked out and don't be scared, I felt nothing.

If it is an abcess, they say hot compresses can be helpful but it's important to get it looked at. Abcesses can be very painful and sensitive and may require an antibiotic.

You are right Quincy, i so need a break....

I took a look and it looks and feels like a deep pimple. Took a hot bath but not helping when i am out. I will try a sitz bath tomorrow and get the usual hemmie supplies in the am. Unfortunately not totally uncomon for me to get pimples in weird places. Have had one on my back for a few weeks, almost gone now.....i cant take this pain for that long, so will get it checked if not better very soon.

Ouch! Sorry this yucky thing happened to disturb your holiday ... Fruitgirl can surely advise you on it. Probably the sitz bath with epsom salt is your best option for the time being. Definitely take care & let us know how you're doing. / Old Hat (31 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
