C.Diff

Hi Y'all!

I'm being checked for C. Diff in a few days and my doctor never really explained what it is. Could someone give me more information about what exactly it is?

 

Well, I was hoping someone who had it could give me more information about their personal experience.

Hi. I've had c.diff. I'll share my story with you. You never really know you have the bacteria c.diff until things get bad. I heard somewhere that 2-3% of c.diff colonizes in your gut before you get any symptoms. At first I completely lost my appetite. I was unable to eat anything. I would have VERY loose stools almost like water and I would have to go to the bathroom all the time. You pretty much have losse watery diarrhea. I ended up in the hospital because I was dehydrated. I was unable to drink as well. They had me on an IV. They gave me a week of flagel (sp?) which is some sort of antibiotic and my symptoms cleared up. The c.diff was still there though; it just went silent. I was of course unaware of that fact because the hospital did not do any stool tests on me before they sent me home. A month later, I once again lost my appetite; this time worse than before. I also started vomiting every hour. I was once again dehydrated. This time around, I was in the hospital for 2 months. I was given about 4 doses of morphine a day because I had SOOOO much chest pain from the vomiting. The put me on a different anti-biotic called vancomyocin (sp?) for the 2 months until my stool came back negative for c.diff. I went home after that but had to return to the hospital because my GI system was so messed up that I could not stop vomiting. Then slowly I tried eating. Took a long time but now I'm able to eat and drink once again. I didn't have any blood in my stool which is great considering the fact that I had to get off all of my UC medications. Oh and I forgot to mention that I would just be in my hospital bed all day because c.diff takes so much out of you that you really dont have much energy.
