I think it's weird that she said they don't do bloodwork there. I understand that she's not a PCP but you are on medication that should be monitored and you also have a condition that can show up in blood work. When I first went to my GI after a while of living in another state, she ran quite a bit of blood, she did c-reactive protien, CBCs, Sedimentation rate, vitamin deficiencies... A lot of these tests are very common for GIs to run. They don't necessarily draw the blood and have a lab themselves but they will give you lab orders - at least my GI does. Sometimes it's probably better to go to a PCP but not if it's for a test that relates to your IBD or the medcation you're taking. As for fatigue and being lethargic, I haven't had any luck finding the source of mine. I am considering seeing a rheumatologist because I don't think my GI is too familiar with treating or diagnosing whatever is causing my fatigue. I just haven't had time to see someone for that.
I have a friend who had a child and her UC went into remission and she's been flare free since. I have had that thought cross my mind but I also don't want children. I know what you mean about
not telling people because they frown upon people who don't want children. My obgyn gave me the most terrible look when I told her I didn't plan to have kids. You would think we were talking about
becoming serial killers from their reaction.
If you're not comfortable with her, change. My GI doesn't always see eye to eye with me but I trust her and I know she's there for me.
