about one year ago, I experienced a flare of UC that was awful for my personal history but probably moderate comparatively. It had me down and out for over two months, lost weight, weak, but no hospitalization. My UC is basically proctitis. This was my first big flare but I had had rectal bleeding more or less every day for close to ten years. My last colonoscopy was about 2 years ago and they deferred doing one last year during my flare.
Well, I have gradually improved and can now say I am better than I have been in 10 years. I am taking Canasa suppositories and 2 Lialda daily. I was taking the probiotocs but have been less consistent with that and stopped taking it all together over the last few months. I have not had any rectal bleeding for at least three months and have regular bm's, once per day, occasionally twice, and occasionally a bout of diarrhea usually if I eat too much fiber but I feel fine once it all comes out.
I scheduled a follow up appt with GI for tomorrow to discuss the next steps- how long to stay on meds, etc. I have noticed that if I skip a canasa I get a headache. Has anybody else experienced this?
I also expect they will recommend another colonoscopy but I am wondering why I would need it now if I have virtually no symptoms. How would the results change the treatment plan?
Any thoughts?
