Niro,
Colazal's labeled dosage in the USA is to induce remission. In Europe it was labeled for both inducing and for maintenance. The dosage is the same (9 pills) for inducing. The maintenance dosage is 4 pills up to 8 pills if necessary. Reason for this is Salix just didn't FDA test for the required maintenance trial(I think 12 months). Colazal hits the distal(left) colon the hardest of the pills. Rectal dosage isn't in your dosage calculation? If not you are actually taking quite a bit.
What your doctor is doing is pretty leading edge. There was a paper posted recently here on mixing oral brands to target more of the colon. It's the next step after the long accepted oral/rectal and oral mega-doses.
I take 4 colazal(mylan) in remission and keep getting better. I have distal UC.
I must have missed the calprotection test. That is very interesting and definitely want to find out more. That could reduce the cost of having UC by a tremendous amount. I bet some GIs are not happy about
that test
Seems like it would allow minimizing medication because you could check regularly and up the drugs if necessary.
It sounds like you have a really good doctor.
