Abdominal bloating and occasional right side pain

I have noticed that my abdomen is getting increasing larger.  It sort of looks like I am about 6 months pregnant.  But it doesn't happen all the time to be that large - it comes and goes but it's always there to some degree.  I also have been having a lot of cramping - not painful cramping but sometimes a constant annoying type of cramp.  I can't tell if the cramps are from my female organs or from my UC. (I strongly feel that the bloating and cramping is not due to gas)  I also have an occasional sharp pain on the lower right side of my abdomen - when it "throbs" it feels like the pain is radiating into my right hip. 

So here is some history and you tell me if what you think - I had an endometrial ablation October '07.  Since then I have not had a period which btw is normal for an ablation.  But before then I had a D&C as well as a hystoscope and exploratory laproscopic surgery.  All tests showed no signs of cancer nor endometriosis.  My UC for the most part these last couple days is under control.  I see no blood, my stool is soft but formed and I go between 1-3 times a day with no pain though on occasion I still get some left sided pain.  The pain is sharp and burning but usually only lasts an hour or so and comes off and on thru out the day.  Before the "good" days, I was still going 1-5 times a day with semi soft to D with occasional very light blood on the stool.  But I had an cortisteroid epidural last Tuesday (my 3rd on in 3 months).  So maybe the steroid helped a bit with my mild Uc symptoms??  But anyway, I want to know your opinions - does this sound female related or Uc related?  I go see my GI today and I plan on asking him too. 

Thanks Heather :) Yes, I have ovarian cysts but they're small and I may not even have them anymore. I don't know if that can be the cause of my right sided pain but I guess a visit to my GYN wouldn't hurt eh?

Hello - I'm new to this site but was drawn here from your description of abdominal pain & bloat.
Except for a few differences, I'm experiencing the same thing - the lower rt abdominal pain is pretty much constant and the abdominal bloat comes and goes from day to day.
I have not noticed any blood at all in my stool but o/w the characteristics are the same.

Here's what I can add - I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy in mid-April. They took the ovaries & fallopian tubes, left the cervix. (Recovery was great, and zero regrets!)
But what I ascribed to ovarian pain before the operation is still there. Now, with this unusual upper abdominal bloat.
Last week, I had an MRI to check for a hernia in the pelvic area. They didn't see anything - anything - that is of concern.
Next stop for me is a GI and there's always the possibility that I'm still undergoing the healing process . . . but I don't think so.
Friends have suggested left over endometrial tissue.
Anyway, I look forward to any information you may have to share in the weeks to come.

I've been having the same symptoms too. I'm so bloated that my pants don't fit right. I'm new to this whole UC thing so I thought it might have been from that. I'm a 30 year old female and I know it's not cramps cause I'm on birth control that doesn't give me a period. I normally wake up with the pain but I always seem to be bloated. Should I be concerned too? Also I'm running a low grade fever that started today. I'm on no meds right now from the doctor and I'm in a severe flare. Doc wants to start me on remi but scared of it. Failed prednison, imuran and asacol.

I went to the GP two days ago with the exact same symptoms that Red described: dull discomfort/pain in the lower right side that radiates to the right hip sometimes and sometimes radiates to the buttom of the rib cage. Im also having a proctitis flare (though it went away after 2 weeks of meds so i stopped the enemas and BAM it came back)...the doc said (after examining me) that these and the gurgling noises that you may be hearing more of are nothing more than your right colon trying to push things along but isn't able to do so effectively because the lower left side is inflamed (proctitis).
So gotta treat the proctitis first to deal with these issues.

Lets see, this was back in 2008 so let me try to recall. I think I did end up going to GYN and he couldn't find anything but said that I have follicular cysts that "pop" and that can cause pain. However, it was shortly after these episodes - I would say maybe a year or so later that I was hospitalized for severe abdominal pain. I had a CT scan and it showed that my whole colon was inflamed. They couldn't find out the cause of it. And it wasn't until I had a c-scope 4 months after my hospitalization that my GI discovered that I had diverticulosis. One pocket on the right and one on the left. So I have a feeling that I had the beginning of diverticulosis back in 2008. The pocket on the right gives me the most trouble. When I was hospitalized, I probably had a diverticulitis attack.
