     Oh...that urgency was the PITS!!!!  I used to have four portapots stationed throughout my house and I live in a rancher rolleyes .  We even had a portapot in our RV!!!!  UGH...sure don't miss those days.

I don't know if you are a guy but the one thing that has been worrying me about surgery is that less than 10 percent of males can have problems with impotence that may or may not go away. I'm getting married this summer and I would hate for my wife and of course myself to lose out although if it comes to it I would make the decision to do it anyways. It isnt everything but it is a big deal. Just something to consider but I wish you the best of luck. It is a very hard decision I am struggling with, I am trying remicade azathioprine combo first but if that doesnt work I could be headed in the same direction as you. Fortunately my fiancé is amazing and I know she would support whatever decision I make.

Just saw here that you were looking at a consultation with Dr. McLeod, i know other people have already recommended Mt. Sinai to you but i just wanted to add in on that, Dr. Mcleod is my current surgeon, i had the first step of the J pouch surgery done in November by Dr. Mcleod at Mt. Sinai and am having the second step done about a month from now. She is an amazing surgeon and right now i feel better with the ostomy bag then i have for about the last two years or so because of UC. I cannot recommend Dr. McLeod or mount Sinai enough, my recovery and care so far has been amazing and i am looking forward to having the second part of this surgery done and over with as I am sure they are going to do an amazing job.

Thanks Chris for the encouraging comments. I've been told over and over again about Mt. Sinai and how well they work. Good to hear first hand of your success. Glad to hear your feeling better, I personally cant wait to have that feeling back. Time for me to get life back and not have to worry constantly about missing work or not being able to participate in my favourite activities because of UC.

Also, post modern irony i have briefly read about impotence through Jpouch surgery. Thanks for jogging my memory and i will be sure to enquire about that at the consult.

May your life post surgery be as fulfilling as mine! I'm 11 years post surgery and have never cancelled a commitment or missed a social occasion due to my GI tract. I'm very physically active and travel the world with no problems. I am so much better post UC and am grateful a surgical option cured me.

We were told that at Mount Sinai the frequency of impotence problems was more like 2% and that most of those were not permanent and could be helped by viagra type drugs. The actual frequency of permanent problems is much, much less. However, the possibility is there and it is something that should be discussed with your surgeon.

Hey everyone,

Just an update...went for my 5th remi infusion today and just hoping it puts me in remission. So that i can get back to work. However, its looking like june i will be having surgery. Thanks for your concern everyone

Hey guys,

Does anyone here work rotating shifts with a j pouch? or have any info regarding rotating shiftwork post surgery? I'm concerned that it may not let my body adjust post surgery? It's hard on your body when you function normally, so if anyone has any thoughts please share.

You will get more responses if you post this question on jpouch.org since so many people on that forum have already had surgery and not so much here. You can even enter those key words and do a search. And I seem to remember a girl on there that worked shifts.

Hey all,

Just an update, looks like the first surgery will be performed near the end of july. Can't wait to get rid of this disease, thanks again for the comments, and once i have the surgery i plan to post a new topic about the surgery.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. Congrats on getting your life back! I'm going on two years with no colon and still rollin'! It's so nice to be "normal" again. :)
