There are people on the board here who are taking the rPC from a German pharmacy that compounds it. I haven't seen many of them check in lately but if you search you may be able to find some details. I hope the study shows effectiveness. It would be nice to have some more options, especially more natural ones.

I took part in the study in summer 2010, called LT-02 UC-01. It was a phase IIb dose finding trial.

It´s an improved retarded released phosphatidylcholine drug developed by Lipid Therapeutics, Germany.
I was lucky to reach remission within two weeks (median time to clinical response was 5 weeks, but there are some documented cases where the clinical response was 12 weeks or longer), while getting the highest dose of 3.2gr rPC per day. This will also be the dose in the phase III trial, expected in this year.
LT-02 is a granular.


The granular was only available during the study.
Most participants of former studies at the University of Heidelberg with the older LT-01 (aka sterpur-P30), got LT-01 until december 2010 during a follow-up or an individual therapy-trial under medical supervision of Prof. Stremmel.

There are some attempts of some pharmacies to rebuild this formular, but with low success.
I think the granular which was shipped to you was definitely not the same formular! (perhaps you remember where this pharmacy is located in germany?)

In case of proctitis, special PC-suppositories are very helpful.
These suppositories are made from 1gr (=15.4grains) hydrogenated fat and 1gr (=15.4grains) phosphatidylcholine.
It´s a special formula from the University of Heidelberg/Germany.

Klinipharm? That's what I see in the search.

Glad to see there is an explanation for the lack of overwhelming success with the Klinipharm product.

I would like to see the trial go quickly and a product available. In the meantime the combo of spirulina and other things in 'Pure Green Protein' seems to do what I expect PC to do. If I take one scoop twice daily instead of one its that much better.

I am not sure how the word "natural" is being used here. The overwhelming majority of drugs arise from natural chemical compounds - but are extracted, concentrated, processed, modified to avoid toxicity, coated (or otherwise fixed to time-release) .... etc

In this case: "LT-02 is a delayed release formulation of phosphatidylcholine designed to improve the barrier function of the mucosal layer of the colon."

They are a major component of biological membranes and can be easily obtained from a variety of readily available sources such as egg yolk or soy beans from which they are mechanically extracted or chemically extracted using hexane"

I am not sure where the line id drawn for natural, but I would think on the other side of soaking in hexane.

While at first read it seems to work on improving mucosal barrier function (a good thing), but not directly address the dysregulation in the immune system, I also read that:

"Phosphatidylcholine also plays a role in membrane-mediated cell signalling"

... which, like probiotic research focused signaling between flora and specialized immune cells in the mucosal lining this may also get at the root dysregulation of immune response.

the phase-III trial was supposed to begin sometime in the last few months. I can't find any further update, but assume the trial would not complete until sometime in 2013, with a little more delay for reporting.

Anyone on this or anyone know of any updates?

I found this study on it after a quick google search of LT-02

I couldn't clearly understand the statistical stuff and the disease score stuff in the study, but it seemed like the drug was pretty effective relative to the success of other UC drugs. If I understand it correctly, about a third of the highest dose group of LT-02 achieved remission, and half of the group experienced a great lessening of symptoms. So 75% of the highest dose group responded well to the medication, in addition to whatever medications they were taking before the study.

Really interested in future studies they do for this drug, and hopefully the success of the drug so far supports the idea that UC is a defect in the mucus membrane rather than the immune system.
