okay I've been using this site more than ever. I started a flare up last week and its getting worse and worse. No bleeding this time but severe left side pain to the point that I cannot get out of bed. D was about 6 times a day, but now completely stopped. I think due to tylenol.and codeine I have been taking that I had leftover from a foot fracture I had in dec. But my question was should I go to the er? I placed a call to my G I doctord and he has not called back. I am in so much pain I can barely move. confused

I'm not a doctor but I think you should go to the ER. Don't wait for the GI doc to call back. Not sure when the last BM you had was but maybe your having a blockage.

Good luck and let us know what happens at the ER.

Oh and I started 40mg of pred on friday and am having no relief

jade, i was in your boat a few days ago. i was having the worst pain in my gut. i thought i had a bowel obstruction because it was so distended and tender. i went to the Medi Help by my house because i HATE going to hospitals. do you have a clinic like that around you? the doctor can usually see you pretty quickly and they have a lot of equipment there. my clinic does xrays, colonoscopies, blood work, etc.

prednisone didn't do a thing of good for me either. didn't stop any of my pains, bleeding, or diarrhea.

we have an urgent care but I don't know if they can do anything for me. it's strange every time I have a flare up it seems like it's always different. bleeding, no bleeding, diarrhea, no diarrhea. luckly I have not had to go to the hospital in 5 years. I have not had pain this bad in a long time... But I hate running to the er unless I desperately need to

If you are in that much pain I would definately get to the ER.

The last time I had severe pain like you are describing, I ended up going to the ER and I was admitted for 3 days. My entire colon was inflamed. But I agree, if you are in so much pain that you can't get out of bed, head to the ER.

I agree with everyone else. If you can't get out of bed its time to go. Good luck, feel better, keep us posted.

Do you have any rectal meds? 

I guess if this is totally out of the ordinary, something else might be going on...but you might be constipated from the codeine.

I always say.....If you have to ask yourself or others, should i go to the ER, you need to go. Hope you feel better soon

Curious for those who go to the ER and are admitted: Are they doing certain tests on you? Red, how did they decide you were inflamed? Did they decide to scope you once you got there?

I went 3 times in one week span. Between the 2 and 3rd visit I had a colonoscopy, confirming I had 'unknown' UC at the time (had to wait on test to return) On the 3rd visit, they admitted me (I was too stubborn to be admitted the first 2 times). Each time I went, they did CBC blood test, they did a c-diff test (that was fun), I had an IV due to dehydration, they even did a pregnancy test, even tho it would be a miracle if I was (significant other is 'fixed')...so, yes...they run plenty of test, but will always say follow up with your GI ASAP. I say if in doubt, and you are in pain...GO to the ER....

I had severe right sided pain and HORRIBLE (extremely painful) cramping. At first the doc thought it was my appendix. They did a CT scan and found out that my whole intestine was inflamed.
