cost of Canasa US vs. Canada

Wow did I get a shock at the cost of Canasa $568!!
I have a high deductible but had no idea a months supply would be this much since generic Rowasa runs $200+.
I promptly cancelled that order and started looking elsewhere (BTW that is my discounted price with insurance coverage).

I decided to see what a Canadian pharmancy would charge. It's called Salofalk suppository there and the same amount cost just $49.
If that is not a good reason for healthcare reform in the US I don't know what is.
Canasa is "out of patent" now but guess what no one makes a generic for it. Why is that? M-O-N-E-Y, plain and simple.
Drug companies want the top dollar not 50 cents, no matter how many people could benefit from the lower cost med.

Recently there was a thread about another drug Colazal that is the brand name for a generic (Balsalazide).
Some people do better on Colazal than the generic but the company decided to shut down Colazal production because they have another patented drug coming on the market. Of course they want to sell their new drug for more money and without Colazal available more people would be forced to pay the higher price.

Who is looking out for the individual? No one, because we are individuals not SuperPAC's with billions of dollars to lobby politicians to keep profits high for drug companies and insurance companies.

P.S. Of course I am ordering Salofalk from Canada. Money I'd rather spend in the US but cannot due to price gouging.
