For those who have really helped me on this thread (and my other thread), quincy and others, thank you so much. Here's an update and a timetable of the past 10 days or so...
Nov to March - bad flare, 6-10+ BMs a day, all diarrhea, lots of blood/mucous, can't get rid of it, on salofalk 3000mg-4500mg per day.
March 19 - see new GI, schedules c-scope for March 23, orders bloodwork and says I will need to start pred/imuran on march 24th after c-scope
March 21 - in the evening I start fasting for bloodwork I'm getting done the next day
March 22 - get bloodwork done, and have to continue fasting for tomorrows c-scope
March 23 - get c-scope, GI says lets try Asacol 2400mg/day and Salofalk 4g enemas for 2 months first, if flare doesnt end after 2 months, need to start pred/imuran
March 24 - start Asacol/Salofalk enemas, regular clean diet; 4 BMs, loose stools, blood, mucous, no gas or cramps
March 25 – asacol/enema, regular clean diet; 1 BM, small loose stools, blood, mucous, little bit of diarrhea, no gas or cramps
March 26 – asacol/enema, regular clean diet; 0 BMs, no symptoms at all
March 27 – asacol/enema, start new diet; 0 BMs, a little gas, no cramping
March 28 – asacol/enema, new diet; 2 BMs, very small balls, diarrhea starting, no blood, very little mucous, started to get gassy in the evening
March 29 – asacol/NO enema, new diet; 2 BMs, bad diarrhea, lots of gas/bloating/cramping, very little mucous, no blood; no enema b/c I couldn’t keep enema in at night cause of the gas.
March 30 – asacol/NO enema, new diet; 3 BMs, all diarrhea, lots gas/bloating/cramping, little mucous, no blood; couldn’t keep enema in at night cause of the gas.
March 31 – asacol/enema, stopped new diet, didn't eat anything through the day, too much gut-rot/bloating/pain...ate some regular food in the PM; 5 BMs, all diarrhea, lots gas/bloating/cramping, very little mucous, no blood; couldn’t keep enema in at night cause of the gas but did the enema the following morning.
April 1 - asacol/enema, start regular clean diet; 2 BMs in the morning, lots of diarrhea, some gas/cramping, but not bad...by the evening, my first formed BM since the 26th!! Still some gas/bloating, but only 20% of what it was a few days ago. I should have no problem keeping my enema in tonight :)
When I look at that, it's obvious things started to go well with the new meds (asacol/salofalk enema) from the 24th till the 27th before starting new the diet. My # of BMs was reducing, blood went away completely, mucous dramatically reduced, no diarrhea, etc. Maybe the 2-day fast I had to do for bloodwork and c-scope btwn the 21st and 23rd helped too??? I can't say for sure. But all I know is things started looking MUCH better within a few days of staring the asacol/enema combo. Then I start the new diet on Tuesday, and look what happens on Wednesday…the gas and diarrhea start and don’t go away until today when I start eating a regular diet again. It seems so obvious now, but at the time, trying everything/anything possible to avoid pred/imuran was priority #1, so doing some extreme diet didn't seem like such a bad idea. Common sense and patience was lost amongst my concern over having to take pred/imuran...
Just want to thank everyone for being so helpful. This week has been brutal on my body, as well as my mental state...very stressed/miserable/depressed and in constant discomfort and pain...and thanks to many of your suggestions, I've learnt a lot and am feeling remarkably better...
