The Doctors tv show had a small section about it on their show, but they showed it going down the nose, through something like an ng tube, into the stomach!
I have read some y'all do it at home, so I know that's not how you do it. Do any of you have it done through your nose like that?

I googled it and it is done this way sometimes. This was the only thing I didn't try before having surgery. The whole thought of it just creeped me out for some reason. My colon was so far gone that I'm fairly sure it wouldn't have made a difference. I think it's great it works for some people.

summerstorm, my doctor mentioned that i could do my FT that way. i have opted for colonoscopies and flex sigs. i just don't think i could mentally do it through my nose.

I don't think Borody does it this way any more?

I think it could actually be non beneficial and actually cause SIBO if done NG tube.

The reason I think this is because I read research saying that the stomach and small intestine is near bacteria free and the bacteria in the upper gi tract is very different to the lower.
The lower GI tract bacteria ferment where fermentation in the upper GI tract causes problems.

I am using colloidal silver to reduce bacteria in the upper digestive tract.

The best way would be via Colonoscopy and then Enema.

I use a high enema bag.

     I mentioned fecal transplant as a last resort to my GI doctor before I decided on surgery.  My GI doctor said I was just asking for more problems.  He said it was far too risky.  I always thought it was done by enema.  By NG tube freaks me out too shocked !!!

I researched this today actually, and I quote from Wikipedia, "The procedure can be carried out via enema, through the colonoscope, or through a nasogastric or nasoduodenal tube." So according to this there are various options; you don't have to get it through the nose.

I would think by enema would get the donor stool where it needs to be way quicker and with less risk. Even by colonoscope has its risks and the prep for this is not fun. I use an enema on my 8 yo son who has UC. It is regarded as very safe.

I would have thought an enema too, but the show made it sound like the ng tube was the way to go. I could have never gotten past that, having an ng tube is bad enough without it putting poop in! And I couldn't figure out how it was safe to put it in your stomach, when it needs to go to your colon.
Johnscott they mentioned the silver on that show too. it was a show about gi things.

Remember, a tv show is all about the ratings. I saw that show and it definitely had more "sizzle" with showing the procedure through the nose. That said, I really don't think it matters much. My logic says start at the top and work through the entire GI system. But, we did the scope and enemas with great success. So, I don't think it matters too much.

Unlike the scope, the enema cannot place the FT as far into the colon.

It is interesting to see so many freaked out by the nasal tube that could deposit directly into the top of the small intestine, because we have a fairly current thread here where someone is making a poop shake and drinking it precisely because of concern about getting it to the far right colon. While some people expressed shock, or mentioned losing appetite after reading the thread, the general board ethic of support resulted in a fairly positive thread with lots of well wishers.

The points about fermentation are good points. I never considered whether probiots were just for hte colon or not. I will read more about that.

I thought of the poop shake guy too when I read this. I would do the enema but I don't think I would be willing to do it through a tube. While it's not the same as a poop shake, it is off-putting. I feel sick thinking about it.

I don't believe Dr Barody does it by NG tube anymore. I believe it's scope followed by a pretty long home enema protocol. And I believe even that's being adapted at the moment.

Seems like going to the stomach first would cause more problems, like ecoli and such. There's a reason we wash our hands after we go to the bathroom. I understand poop going in the colon, its supposed to be there anyway.

     That is what my GI doctor was concerned about...developing more problems than I had.  UGH..the whole concept grosses me out.  I have a bag and that didn't gross me out as much as the thought of someone else's poop going into my system smhair .
