MyPhyve,
Morning is the worst part of the day for many of us here, I have learned to manage things better over the last 20years so that I could get out of the house early in the morning.
If I was back in college I wouldn't definately not want to be sharing a washroom with anyone. That is a major stress on it's own having to wait which many of us can't wait when we need to go, running down the hall to a main washroom and that could be many times if we are flaring.
I would definately live on my own or with a room mate but have more than one washroom.
Learning to eat healthy is important, and sometimes the fast dorm food that is offered is not always the best choices. Most of the time you dont know how its made or what is in many of the foods and that alone could make things worse. It's would be good to educate her on healthy foods and how to prepare meals without having to eat packaged, processed , boxed and high sugar meals.
I also wish I knew how to recognize my symptoms back then instead of waiting until i was in a full blown flare. Now I always have enemas, and cortifoam on hand and as soon as my stomach starts gurgling, or an increase in my BM'S, a spot of blood or just a tired unwell feeling I immediately start the enemas. Getting enough sleep is so important, which living alone is another plus.
Lomotil - is another med that made a huge difference in things. It slows down the colon, calms the cramping and in most cases elimates the urgency. It is the only thing that I can take and know I will be ok for the rest of the day. I always take it after the BM's in the morning and it works in about 30 or so minutes and I am great the rest of the day. No panicking for washrooms. I can have a normal day.
I also find now that regular daily exercise everymorning helps, it reduces stress, calms the mind which calms the stomach. If I know I have to be somewhere in the morning I make sure Im up in plenty of time to get a run, brisk walk or a full workout in.
I'm not familiar with disability services, but i do remember someone here went through them for help while in school.
Get her on probiotics daily to keep the good bacteria in the colon, without the good bacteria the stools will get looser. metamucil is also important to take daily to keep the colon walls clean, absorb the water and bulk the stool.
