Hi everyone, I am newer to this site. I have been looking for any information I can find about Pyoderma Gangrenosum (PG). It can happen to about half of all the people who have an IBD. I have had UC since 2001. I was diagnosed in October, and now have been kinda stuck in the same place for the past 5 weeks. I have seen 2 different doctors who are both wanting to scrape or do debredment. When I read about this all I seem to find are old message board posts from years ago of people saying "no scraping" and how it made things worse. Neither doctor can tell me exactly what would happen if I did or did not scrape. They both seemed to get mad that I told them that I didn't think that was the best thing.
To anyone out there suffering or has been through this before I will take any advice you can give or just listen to your story. My wound is clean, went down signficantly in size since it first developed, and I haven't had any secondary infections or anything major happen to it. I am putting Melgisorb dressings on it, changing it daily, and taking Imuran and Pred. It is on my ankle/foot/leg and is about the size of my hand.
I read that debrediment is not usually considered for clean wounds or PG. One doctor wanted to cut into the entire infected area to "make it look like ground up hamburger". The other doctor wanted to cut the entire edge around the would because the edges are "rolling under", but I thought that was one of the classic signs of PG.
Any help, info., hospitals that you have had luck with, etc. I will greatly appreciate!!
