methotrexate for colitis?

I tried most of the drugs out there. I know that methotrexate is usually for crohns
Can it helps for UC also?

i used it for quite a while actually. and it helped for a bit until i started flaring of course!
i think (for me anyway) things work for a bit then your body gets used to it and it doesn't work anymore.
then it's onto the next drug and when they all finally stop working its time for surgery. bummer

you gotta be careful on methotrexate. it is an immunosuppresant (which i know you already know) and it is the reason that i almost died and had emergency life saving surgery to remove my whole colon just last month in March. now i have an ileostomy and a massive scar down my abdomen.
i got CMV which is a virus (google it) that completely ruins those that are immunosuppressed. it caused CMV colitis on top of my already flaring UC = bad news for me!

Don't lose hope on drugs stopping working and then having to do surgery- I failed remicade (at double dose) after a few months then failed humira after 2 years and then got some results from LDN... Things dont have to just keep getting worse, just because one doesn't respond to biologics forever- indeed I view my losing tolerance to biologics in a positive light, since I neber fekt comfortabke staying on them for more than a few years, given the lack of long term data on their safety. By all means try LDN.

I was considering mtx a while ago because I was having so mch trouble getting into remission. My GI was willing to let me try MTX but she said it may or may not work for me. I created a post here and I received mixed feedback. It's definitely something worth considering but it seems like it's hit or miss.

I am using MTX. It really isn't helping my UC, but it works wonders for my arthritis

yea, the methotrexate completely got rid of my psoriasis!

It sound to me that MTX isnt effective for UC
But still I will give it a test

Never hurts to try. Make sure you take folic acid everyday if you are taking this. It depletes you body of it and you need to replace the folic acid

I know there is currently a study going on at Dartmouth Hitchcock with MTX and UC so they must think there could be some possibility. Don't know more than that though, sorry.
