Public toiletting?

Sorry that thats gross! I just want to know if im "normal" am i scum? I would never ever judge anybody else, but im judging myself

It's natural to feel like scum, but you're not...I feel the same way when it happens to me as I'm sure we all do...it's part of living with this humiliating disease, it's not our fault, we can't help it, if we could then we wouldn't do it, but it doesn't work that way so it's important not to beat yourself up over it....

It could have still happend to you even if you didn't drink or eat anything, that's the nature of this beast we live with called IBD.

If you have UC, alcohol, carbonated drinks, or caffeine-containing liquids tend to irritate the colon pretty fast. That's why you couldn't make it home to the toilet. One of my worst experiences came after drinking an einspanner in Austria-- double expresso coffee with whipped cream. So-- just chalk up your runs to experience; it happens to most of us at one time or another. Then think about what you can tolerate when you go out with friends, and prepare yourself to refuse any amount or type of drink that upsets your gut. It's o.k. to look out for your health; real friends will understand. / Old Hat (31 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Gotta love those small heating pads eh? :) But I agree with others. Unfortunately this is such a common occurrence for anyone with an IBD. I've never had a full blow out but I've had "squirts" just from a simple cough. That in itself it icky. But the way I look at it is, no need to be embarrassed. Everyone poops and everyone has had an accident at one point in their life regardless of what they tell you. Heck my husband has and he's healthy as a horse!

kickboxer, i just laughed out loud in my office. I too had a slow bouncer the other week but luckily, just made it.

Vodka Water, surely you wouldnt water down Vodka like you would scotch. that just seems a tad wrong. I was thinking I'd have to try teenagery drinks like vodka orange. They say its all about trial and error right??

My ex's dad had UC and he was often driven home "a disguisting mess" as he put it, so glad he left me three weeks ago, what would he have thought of me. but now I dont have to care.

I would be totally humiliated if that happened to me...and with flaring and certain situations, it could easily happen.

You haven't mentioned what meds you're on....can you clarify for us?

Hope it doesn't happen again. Yes, it's a learning curve regarding foods/drinks that can stimulate the digestive tract.

These posts have always been my greatest fear. I am brand new to UC, less than 2 weeks ago I was hospitalized for it. I didn't know what was happening, my GI doc was fantastic. Anyway I am so new I haven't even had my hospital follow up. Currently taking predisone and bentyl. I want to express to all on here that I am thankful for your stories about UC, I think this site will really help me in the future.

geno831 I'm new to this forum too although I've been sick for 10 years (this year is my anniversary). I've been in other forums but this one has been the most helpful and most encouraging so far.

Geno831. I'm new to the forum too.. I steered well away from forums and the internet when I was first diagnosed as I found it all a bit too scary, and a alot was really negative. I found my own way and got into remission pretty easily, well a lot of drugs and then getting over the actual damage to my poorly insides, anemia and such like. But now I'm a bit more experienced or accepting of my illness I find them a great help. Be careful not to be scared of anything you read, everybody's different. But as a young person its all very scary to me, my family live far away and the support from here is proving really invaluable, which I never thought Id say in a million years.

p.s its raining outside so all lasts nights mess has washed away from the street. phew! tehe.

 YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!  it feels crappy no matter what you do , and anxiety causing , but trust me we all got an OOPS humilating didnt make it story. i once was dashing thru work, so in bringing more attention to myself , HA ( look at that girl running holding her butt just kidding ...kinda :)) and loosing even more "concentration " on holding it in because i went into panic running mode LOL ! needless to say the butt didnt connect in time in the potty stall and bam i spent 40 mins in a public restroom using ALL the toilet seat covers and TP to try and clean crap off me and my pants .... and i had to throw away a great pair of my favorite undies too boot!  getting off work after that couldnt come fast enough ... !  OH boY! dont feel so down on yourself :)  feel better !

the lead drummer in the rock band Pearl Jam has Uc or maybe crohns.  I read an article where he talks about pooping his pants on stage during concerts.   

 

if you know what your triggers are during a flare avoid them...

"Footnote" is your Signature. Every time you post there are three options just above the SUBMIT button; "Include Signature" can be left blank or selected to include it.

To create, edit, add or delete part or all of your signature is accessed through "MY PROFILE". It is located next to the Log Off button at the left side of the solid blue menu bar above.

Hope that helps you to find & create a profile. Indeed, a profile provides the UC forum members with a little (or a lot) of background in order to properly & relevantly respond to your posts.

A suggested use of your signature: include it with a new thread being posted, and when responding to others' threads for the first time. There after on any given thread - leave out the signature by not selecting that option before submitting. Personally, I like to 'sign' posts with my screen name when not using my profile signature.

Also, I like to address my posts to the specific member by their screen names. When the thread gets going - sometimes we comment on or include quotes of others in the thread who aren't the originator of that thread. Individual anonymity is maintained within the UC forum, while the dialogue is coherent and both personal and inclusive of all members who want to read and/or participate in a thread.

about accidents - OOPS! crap happens. Within this past week was a thread about accidents that spun off into humorous poop stories. It was titled something like 'I hate the unpredictability'. It triggered two other poop humor threads; "Is there a Poop Fairy?", and "Never ever ever trust a fart".

Eventually, we all give in and transform the initial humiliation into matter of fact humbleness of our own human biology and/or humor. Any other members want to weigh in an explanation how to transform humiliation?

about your choice of recreation and consumption, totally understandable. I'd have been really pissed off if UC had arrived while I was in my partying 20's. Now 51, I've been clean & sober for 20 years. Life-threatening depression plus anxiety has and continues to cause diversion from my intended life goals & journey. So, to get sane, step back from the precipice, and seek help, I just gave up recreational consumption. Sadly though, I also gave up all the fun of dancing in clubs and throwing tequila & beer parties. Anyway, thanks to SSRIs & other medications, counseling & recovery group support, here I am living with UC since 2006.

Because of my own story, I know it is really complicated to consciously plan, choose and make big lifestyle changes. Have fun without harming yourself. If you can apply scientific methodology, experiment to find what works for you. Finding balance among the domains of one's life is hard enough for us living in the hectic age of urban consumerism and information technology. You may or may not get & keep good control of your life & the UC. What is important is the journey (not the destination), or so I've heard. Philosophy aside, forgive yourself and enjoy life.

Practically speaking, you may benefit from wearing Depends (disposable panties) when going out without knowing for sure about toilet facilities. In the US, an improved version of Depends is being marketed. They claim to fit really snug and be as smooth on your garments as regular panties. Also, they now are being made with the outer barrier layer in colors. It's different than a menstrual pad because it can contain a large volume of fluid (and solids or partially solids). The risk of accidents doesn't have to spoil your fun, your work, etc. You just need to plan ahead.

Are there members out there who use the new Depends? Can you share anything about your experience using them, especially how they perform in containing accidents.
