Want to cancel next remicade infussion

 Hi Everyone,

  I have been suffering from very bad joint pain for months. I started Remicade last June. I did ok for say 4 months then then the joint pain got worse and worse.

  I don't see my GI till June 7th but thinking of skipping this infussion to see if my joint pain subsides. Its this Wed. Any sugestions?

i'd say this is one of the benefits of stopping remicade. i stopped at the end of january and feel much better in that respect. i still get the pains time to time but i figure i wont when it's all out of my system. it's a strong drug so it may take a while to notice a difference.

Isn't Remicade's original and primary use for the treatment of arthritis? 

When i was on Remicade, I got a phone call about 3 weeks agead of my scheduled infusion.  This was to authorize the shipment of Remicade to the infusion clinic.  Because of the expense and the fact that it has to be shipped in a cold pack, they want you to commit to the infusion.  It might be too late to cancel.  Maybe your next one?  Mary

Thats the irony of Remicade....it is also used to treat arthritis (RA), but can produce joint pain as a side effect???

My mom is on Remicade for RA. How strange that it can cause joint pain! I was on it for a year and never had joint pain from it but I would break out in hives. Best wishes in whatever you decide to do.

Do not skip the infusion without talking to your dr first.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the messages, I'l go to the appt. I see my GI on June 7th so I will discuss the next step regarding remicade. I also see a sports medicine doctor in a few weeks If she can give me sometrhing to counter act with with the remicade for the joint pain I will continue.
It just stinks thats its so good for one thing the causes another. I cant live in the pain. I takes me forever do daily things now. Its just not fair.

has anyone been on remicade for years and suffered from the joint pain and tollerated it?

I got excruciating joint pain from Remicade 5 days after my first infusion. My joints hurt so badly that I couldn't walk and I would writhe around on the floor in pain. I had never had any joint pain in my life before. The pain was the worst in the middle of the night and migrated to different joints. My doctors thought this pain would subside in a couple of days, but when it didn't go away in over a week, I told them I wanted to cancel the future infusions I had scheduled and opt for surgery. I was afraid to put more of the drug in my body as it clearly didn't agree with me. My doctors were supportive as they felt I was having a bad reaction to Remicade. They never said it was a problem to cancel the scheduled infusions

Once I stopped the Remicade, my joint pain gradually dissipated until it was completely gone in a month's time. It may take yours a bit longer to go away since you have been on the drug for a while.
