I took dairy out of my diet for almost 2 years along with gluten, starches and sugar except for honey. And finally achieved my first remission in 11 years. I ate protein and veggies.
I do not believe I am lactose intolerant because I can now eat/drink dairy with no symptoms at all (and I wasn't lactose intolerant before UC). It was just the very inflamed state of my colon that created the intolerance to dairy. SCD yogurt is fine now but not tolerated previously.
It's pretty hard to make major diet changes to eliminate dairy in all it's forms along with starches and gluten but I came out way better after doing it. I am also having some potato now and then, no problems at all. But not adding gluten back just in case.
Dairy and gluten are the two biggest intolerances for most people. It's worth it to try eliminating them for a few months.
I always told myself "It's not forever, just for a while" so I wouldn't get depressed
And it turned out to be true in my case.
No D, no bleeding, no urgency. Finally. 12 years with UC and finally.
