My GI did a CBC 2 weeks after starting me on 6mp.  I thought it was a liver function test too but it wasn't.  He said because they have the TPMT enzyme test results and that was ok that he didn't need to do that.  I didn't ask but I imagine he will do that at some point.  Does that sound the norm?  I see him soon and will ask, just curious if it was essential to have the liver enzyme test  even if you did fine on the enzyme test.  Any of your GI's do it this way?

TPMT enzyme is done before you start the drug to make sure you can metabolize it. Some can't.

My standing order for Imuran includes CBC, Metabolic Panel, Lipase, Amalyse (spelling?). I'm at a 2 month interval now; but went much more frequently in the beginning. Imuran or 6MP can be hard on the liver...I'd ask the question if I were you.

I get a CBC and a hepatic panel regularly.

Yes, you should still get liver tests. My TPMT test looked fine and I just ended up having to stop 6MP after 4 weeks due to poor liver function (elevated ALT/SGPT).

Yes, it's very essential to get your liver enzymes checked regularly while being on this med. If he is not doing this test, push for it. I go in every 3 months to have mine checked as well as the CBC.

When I was taking 6MP, I first had the CBC and TPMT tests. Then after a month had the liver (ALT/AST tests). The liver tests were done monthly.
