Asacol...Light discoloration spots in underware

Im on 4200 mgs a day of Asacol, and every once in a wile I see a small light pinkish spot in my underwear mixed in with the urine overflow. I have gone to the Doc the last time I saw this with my underwear in hand, so she could see it. She checked for blood and the test came back clean. Could the asacol do this? Or maybe spinach? If it were blood I would think it would show up on the test...Im stumped here :(

I have not read anyone else writing about this before. I can't see it having anything to do with spinach, I eat spinach every day. I'm not as much an expert on the Asacol.

I take Colazal so I am not very much help with Asacol either.

Blood in urine sounds more like a problem with a urinary infection. Are you having pain? Maybe try some cranberry juice to reduce the PH balance in your urine. If you are not sure just ask your GI for another test. You never know if they missed something the first time around. These things happen!

I am confused by your description, whether you think the stain comes from your urine or the other area. I have had nearly constant problems with leakage of the light orange moist variety and I am undecided on whether this is due to the Colazal, proctitis, or some other more nefarious rectal condition.

My doctor had been no help on this, and searching the internet has also been fruitless. I still get this after having a bowel movement, even with all the improvements I have seen going gluten free. I am so fed up I plan on going to the Mayo clinic, as I have played "doctor" roulette before and just ended up spinning my wheels.

I took asacol years ago and this happened to me too. All my white underwear began to get stained slightly - basically the color of the asacol tablets (only fainter/diluted). What alarmed me more than the color was the fact that I seemed to be dripping/leaking slightly after urinating. It was very consistent. When I stopped the asacol everything stopped too - no more post-urination drips (and a return to normal clear urine).

I always get the pinkish purple staining in the toilet. I have to wonder if this is related.

Well a few weeks again my pee was of amber color. Got checked with urine and blood and everyting came out normal.
Obviously it was the same olor as the asacol pills and id reckon it might be what you are looking for.

If you did urine and blood samples and nothing came out then it should be fine.

Yep, same thing here, Whenever I up my dose of Asacol, I get reddish spots, at first I thought it was blood, but it's the red coating on the pills, very common my doc said.

I am on Lialda and have the same problem. Reported it to my GI, who expressed no concern after I told him there was no back pain associated with the staining - which I guess could indicate kidney problems if pain were present. Sometimes my urine is visibly pink/red tinted, which is a bit alarming but I just remind myself that the Lialda is the same color. Not sure if this warrants more attention or not.

There must be a strong dye in the tablets cause I've been on them for just over a week(6x800mg/day) and now that I am having regular looking poops finally, they are the exact color of the tablets! Very different from when I was on Salofalk! Haven't noticed a change in my urine though...
