Very interesting...especially since it was only an antifungal program/diet that helped me get well...still symptom and meds-free, six years later. No question that for me my UC symptoms were fungus driven. My fungal quotient was high...been on birth control pills, took antibiotics, lived in a water-damaged home, moldy/mildewy basement, craved bread/pasta/starchy foods.

Same here. It wasn't until my wife purchased Paul Gosselin's Treating Pouchitis Guide, and I tried what he suggested that I finally realized that my UC and Pouchitis both stemmed from the same fundamental problem...fungus. His story matched mine almost exactly and the results of his program were immediate. I realized it too late to save my colon, but at least I'm living meds-free and am able to control my Pouchitis symptoms through diet and the occasional cleanse. I'd encourage all UC and Pouchitis sufferers to stop looking at this as a bacterial problem and instead look at it as a fungal problem. The bacteria we've been killing with antibiotics, steroids, etc. are our friends (I was on a dozen medications at one point before my colectomy), and the fungi we've been feeding with starches, dairy, and sugar are the enemy. Really, it's the imbalance that's the problem, not one or the other. Please, please, please stop and take notice. The probiotics make for a good start but at least discuss with your doctor an antifungal program and diet while suspending your anti-bacteria campaign. My GI specialist was against it--claiming that there was no causal link between UC and diet and that a bacterial infection was the only plausible explanation--but he agreed that we had exhausted all other options but another surgery, so I went ahead and did it on my own. It was a risk, but I know it saved my life. Been back to normal for 18 months now, and I'm not going back.

BlueNile55- LIKE! My doctor also discouraged me from trying an antifungal program...said changing diet would not help. He chastised me for following the diet, as a matter of fact, and tried to tell me it was just a coincidence that I got well. Some doctors have such big egos...

Kim, can you fill us in on more about
this diet? I've never come across of the Anti Fungal program since being on Healingwell.
