How is it wrong to tell someone not to take it? It is still their choice to do so or not. People asked about what they felt about the meds, did it work, how were the side effects? I know not everyone will have the same effects that someone else did but from reading all these post it looks like most of us did have the same effects. There are alternatives to prednisone, but docs get into routie and say.... UC= prednisone. Some of the other meds that are out there that are less severe than predinsone may work for some but then the other yeah they would have no choice but to take prednisone. Look at your options, do research, there are other options out there, it is just a trial and error of finding what drug will keep the UC undercontrol with less side effects, I think prednisone should be the last drug to be choosen unless the syptoms were so severe.

It's common knowledge re the baggage that comes with prednisone (on this forum anyways) but it's wrong for people to say "don't take it".
If you have been prescribed this drug it's because there is no plausible alternative. Unfortunately we are stuck with it till they come up with another med that can take down a flare in a hurry.
Without it you will finish up in hospital on IV steroids---usually you guessed it---prednisone.
Much as I hate the stuff, it's Hobsons Choice I'm afraid...
