Contrast for a CT scan

I remember a few years ago, when I was hospitalized I was given the contrast to drink before a CT scan and having uncontrollable D afterwards...I mean it was so bad that I had stool leaking out of me.

Yesterday, I ended up in the ER because I had a diverticulitis attack and had the CT scan again with the contrast. Once again, I am faced with horrible D. Not leaking this time tho.

For anyone that has had the contrast, do you find that it gives you D as well?

It definitely affected things for me for a couple of days until it was all out of there. Blah I sure hope you feel better soon. Diverticulitis=no fun.

Oh no Sherry! I've not had a contrast with a CT, so don't know how I would be with it.

How are you feeling today?

Hope the diarrhea doesn't last...yikes!

Gave me diarrhea for a week. sorry you had to go through this again!

Yeah, I'm feeling better. I feel a little hung over from the morphine they gave me tho! lol My gut is still not 100% yet because I still have some discomfort. But the CT scan showed no inflammation or abcesses so that is good.

I increased my fiber supps and I took a Bentyl and things seemed to have slowed down a little but boy is my tush sore! :(

I had contrast with one of my MRIs and I didn't notice it giving me any problems. I am so sorry you're feeling so poorly. Hopefully the worst is past.

yeah, i noticed a lot of D after the contrast test i had. it was bright green for about three days.

I had a CT scan done when they were trying to diagnosis me and I remember laying on the table and almost pooping my pants. What contrast did they use?

Ooooooooo! Sorry that happened again, Sherry. Hope you'll get back in good order soon. I can't comment on this test, but an aunt of mine with Crohn's got violently sick from IV contrast administered for kidney exam & developed congestive heart failure. Those dyes can really bother patients. I wish the radiologists could use more natural substances instead of so many chemicals with bad side effects! I had it too. Lasted a couple of days, but they warned me that it comes back out pretty quickly and that I would have D afterwards. I guess it is pretty common if they warn you about it up front.

I drank the barium stuff and had some dye junk. The stuff I drank is what messed me up. But only for that day and maybe the next morning, really.
