Had takedown just over three weeks ago and am doing ok. It was so much easier than the previous surgery! The first few days I had lots of nausea and vomiting, but that soon stopped. I did wish that I'd never said that I didn't care if I was stuck in the bathroom 24 hours a day to begin with as long as I got rid of the bag, as that's more or less what happened the first two weeks! It was starting to remind me of the UC, albeit without the bleeding, extreme pain and aneamia! Things have calmed down a lot now during the day although still finding I have to go more in the evening and at night, I probably haven't been as careful with what I eat as I should've been. That was the one advantage with the bag - I could eat whatever I liked with no problems, even all the foods you are supposed to avoid such as corn, mushrooms, popcorn etc.
I can't wait until things have settled more, I feel so amazingly well now so just have to wait for the pouch to adjust and hopefully all will be good
Despite feeling so well, unlike many others I don't wish I had had the surgery sooner. I never wanted surgery and if I'd had it before when the GI had said I had to, I don't think I would have adjusted mentally. Even now I still find it difficult to accept and feel sad that it came to surgery, which is weird as I feel the best I have felt in years and it's so good to no longer have UC! I hope someday soon to feel like ByeByeUC and others, and be glad that I no longer have my colon!
