Hair loss from meds

I noticed recently that my hair is starting to thin. My guess is that it's from the prednisone or maybe pentasa? Anyway, have any of you experienced this? Any pointers for ways to lessen it, like shampoos or something? It hasn't gotten too bad yet, no bald spots or anything, but I'm definitely shedding more than usual, like in the shower and when I brush my hair. And maybe it will get better as I continue to taper prednisone?

One of the times I tapered off Pred, I lost over half the hair on my head as soon as I stopped my last dose (back in December)... It was coming out by the handful in the shower and every time I ran my hand through my hair. Lasted about a month I think? I'm sure it was Prednisone withdrawals. I read somewhere about taking Biotin for this problem... I took it daily throughout my last round of Pred and did not notice any additional hair loss. I've been continuing to take it in order to encourage what I lost before to grow back in faster. I look pretty funny right now, actually - long hair except for tufts sticking out all over my head that are a few inches long, LOL. Give it a try. You can find it in the nutritional supplement section of any pharmacy.

     Had this problem too.  Try Nioxin Shampoo and Conditioner.  Your hairdresser should handle it or Penney's Salon.

Yup its the pred. Luckily I have so much hair that the loss wasn't noticeable to anyone but me.

I too experience hair loss on Prednisone. I have been on Pred. for almost 8 months straight and I am so frusterated with my hair being everywhere. I have long hair and it seems like it has taken over my bathroom. I am not aware of anything that helps it. I am going to check out the shampoo that Christine1946 mentioned. I am on a tight budget so if it's too expensive I won't even try it.

I hope you stop shedding soon; tapering the Prednisone has made it stop for me in the past.

I think it's the prednisone, the same thing happened to me last year during my first round of steroids when I started tapering. It lasted maybe a month or two, I lost about half my hair but it's growing back now!

I too have experienced hair loss while on pred. Right now I am having hair loss due to lack of nutrients, I'm sure. I have really curly hair so the only one who can tell is me, thank goodness! My afro still looks fine.

I think I might try some biotin supplements. It looks like it also helps your skin and metabolism as well, which I could always use. Thanks for the tips.
