Looking for insight from mothers and what their pregancy exsprince with UC was

I am sixteen weeks pregant and would like some advise as well as what is possible to exspect as i recover .

I am due in DEC the 27th so far that may change and the regular babysites dont seem to have much on what to exspect with UC .

I understand everyone is diffrent , i know only that one of my cuz after pregancy has crohns and weights about ninty pounds .

Congrats on your pregnancy. I've had 2 kids since being diagnosed with UC and my experiences were different each time. With my first, I didn't flare until he was 8 months. It wasn't a terrible flare, but it lasted for about 7 months until I got pregnant with #2. Then I went into remission, but only until he was 6 weeks. That flare lasted 1 year and it was a stubborn one! I went on prednisone to stop it. I had never been on it before, and was terrified because of of the horror stories I had heard about it. I wish I had gotten on it sooner though because it would've saved me alot of stress. It took over 3 weeks for it to kick in, I didn't have very many side effects and tapered off easily. Hopefully I won't need it again though because I know I probably got lucky. Anyway, try to get a much rest as possible after the baby is born. Stock up on oral and rectal meds so you will have them at the ready. Don't take the ibuorofen they will most definitely prescribe you, but any kind of tylenol is fine. I got prescribed hydrocodone and I believe that one is ok too. Good luck!

i gave birth 6 weeks ago and a week after giving birth and went into a bad flare. they did a colonoscopy and it showed i had inflamtion everywhere. they kept me for 1 week at the hospital. i was put back on prednisone and it took about 3 weeks for me to see a difference. i wen to go see the GI 2 weeks later and she put me on Imuran just to make sure that i dont start flaring after tapering off prednisone. so far the meds are working and almost all my symptoms are gone and hopefully it stays that way so i can take care of my little girl. i think next pregnancy when i start seeing symptoms that a flare is coming i will not wait a week to talk to my doc. During my pregnancy i had no symptoms whatsoever it was just right after i gave birth.

I was diagnosed with UC when I was 9 weeks pregnant. I had bleeding throughout my pregnancy and had a horrible flare up after I had my daughter. I ended up in the hospital for 9 days, and my bowel almost perforated. I was put on asacol, prednisone and imuran and right now the prednisone is the only thing that's working and now that's even wearing off.

I'm just thankful my baby is healthy. I hope you have better luck than I did and wish you a healthy pregnancy!

I had two pregnancies post-uc diagnosis. The first was uneventful. I did not have any flares until after the 11 lb 10 oz boy was born. I had a moderate flare during the 7th and 8th month of pregnancy with the second child. I did take prednisone and used a cortifoam enema twice daily. The children are now 23 and 19 and tower over me! I hope you have a healthy and happy pregnancy. Congratulations!

I'm currently about 7 weeks pregnant with my second child. My first (and so far only) UC flare started when my son was about 4 weeks old and I was finally diagnosed with UC when he was about 2.5 months old. I was in pretty bad shape (15-20+ extremely urgent BM's a day and 25 lbs below pre-pregnancy weight) and it took a while to get the flare under control. I probably could have gotten into remission sooner if I'd given in and taken prednisone earlier, but I wanted to give the 5ASA meds a fair shot.

At any rate, things seem to be pretty stable so far this pregnancy, although I realize I've got quite a ways to go yet! I am worried about flaring again after childbirth, but at least this time around I know that I have UC, and know how to treat it.

I had three flares while I was pregnant, which healed each time (temporarily, but quickly) with prednisone. I was on Lialda throughout the pregnancy and had just stopped taking Imuran shortly before I became pregnant - thank god b/c it can cause birth defects. After giving birth, two weeks later I started bleeding heavily with clots, which I now suspect to be a result of a heavy dosage of Ibuprofen I got after my c-section. Stay away from NSAIDS! Otherwise, my twin pregnancy was healthy and problem free. Now, three months later, I've had another short course of prednisone for a minor flare as I wait for my stupid insurance company to okay Humira.

That is a good question. We think our fourth child may have UC. He had what could have been a very mild flare freshman year of high school. It is almost six years later and he has been free of any symptoms. He does not eat wheat because he doesn't like it. Wheat was always a flare trigger for me so I found it interesting that he has never liked wheat products even as a baby.
