Enemas

Started on Humira 8 weeks ago. Still using Rectal meds every night. Switching between Hydrocort enemas and Mesalamine enemas. Eveytime I stop the hydrocort one and go back to the Mesalamine ones symtoms return. The mesalamine enemas are  really not helping much. The Hydrocot ones seem to help a lot. How long can you stay on the cort enemas? Put in a call to the GI for a lower dose Mesalamine enemas.Anyone have better luck with lower dose rectal med? Do they make a 2gram Mesalamine enema here in the US?

Been using Mesalamine for a long time, maybe i'm becoming immune to the stuff.

i was told i could use steroid enemas indefinately. I know others will disagree though. If they work why not. I am on a 5mg pred suppository and a 20mg pred foam emema and 35mg pred oral!!!! full tilt on roids!!! and im fine. ^*(
can you get a lower dose hydrocort suppository maybe. do yous have them over there.

yeah, im sure someone out there has the FACTS about long term steroid enema use. my GI told me that.
But on the information leaflet i have it list NO side effects. weird huh?

most modern steroid enemas are foam based - as the likelihood of someone with colitis being able to retain a water based enema is quite low. These act topically applying the steroid directly to the colon - with only small amounts being absorbed into the bloodstream. This makes side effects less likely. The downside is that they can only reach the descending colon and rectum - so for those with extensive colitis oral steroids may be needed. A combination of Entocort and steroid enemas can provide topical treatment to the majority of the colon - again minimizing side effects.

What exactly are your symptoms that are returning, and how long afterward?

Are you tapering the steroid enemas, or switching abruptly?

Firstly, maybe change the probiotic.

Maybe add the steroid enemas with the mesalamine...it could be that you're steroid dependant..it could be that your body doesn't like the mesalamine..it could be that your body doesn't like that high of a mesalamine.

Maybe asking your GI to try a lower dosage of the enemas...but possibly using a half bottle at a time when you use them can give you a bit of an answer with that...lower dosage and see if that improves.

Are you using a high dosage of the DHEA? Are you female or male?

I don't know, just throwing it out there. Some women are hormone sensitive and maybe it's in part of the problem. But if it's prescribed, then probably not. Is 10mg low dosage?
Do you have to be on it full time? or is it something that's taken for a period and then off?

It's possible regarding the probiotic. There are only a few who use the Primal Defense.

What are the other compounded hormones you're taking?

Ok!!! Hope this might help others. The Suggestions from Quincy helped my problem with the enemas. Reduced the Mesalamine by half, Used less then half of Hydrcort enemas. Trying to eliminate the cort ones if possible. Changed the probiotics. Went to a dairy, gluten free one. that I did on my own. Much less gas and distress. Little blood and not as much urgency. Going to give it a try for a while. Couldn't get a lesser dose here in the States of Rowasa. Crazy how in US we can't get what other Countrys have!

Canada online has Rowasa 2g. I think it was $108.00 for 12 . Going to check some of the smaller pharmacies. I don't think the Canadian online will take my insurance . I need that extra liquid in a full bottle. Goes higher . Feel like a mixologist ! Thanks for your help:)

I'm going to try to go online. Doesn't look promising . I was told it is not available in the US. What about adding distilled water just to add a little liquid? Shouldn't compromise the meds, I wouldn't think. Have about 8 boxes of the stuff at 4 g. What do you think?

I went to see if I could get a different bottle for my mixture. No deal. There is water in it. I just need a little. Putting some Cort enema in too, but not much. See if it works out.
