My 11 year old son does not have ibd but on 2 occasions in the last week ,his stool was orange covered with oil.It looked as if you poured half a cup of orange tinted oil in the toilet. Freaked out of what I am reading on internet. wondering if I should take him to the er,because I am impasioned at the Dr. route I will be given,ex.My dr. having to refer us ,then wait months for that appointment and so on.Am I over reacting.I dont think its anything he ate ,we do not eat junk.

Did he eat any fish just before those two times?... in particular, butter fish?

no,he didn't eat any fish before, or any artificial oil.

It seems to lead to the inability to break down certain oils/fats.

I would suggest you get your son to write down anything he eats at all during a period of time and then see if it matches with high oil content.

What vitamins/supplements are you giving him?

What are his favourite snacks?

 Qiuncy, I don't give him any vitamins or medicine.

I buy my kids organic kefir,and we eat pretty healthy,other than some sweet treats,I know the night before this last incident,he had a sub with cold cuts and a spicy sauce on it. The time before I don't know what he ate because he didn't tell me about it at the time until it happened again. I do have an appointment Monday but I know it will take for ever to see a specialist if the Dr. feels he needs to. I know its not normal.

Was your son in any pain passing his bm? When my son was about 3 he had bright blue bms once. Discovered after visit to the doctor that it was from eating all the blue Fruit Loops out of the cereal box!

If your son doesn't seem sick or is having blood and/or pain, then I would just keep tack of what he eats and drinks prior to having orange poop.

this has happened to me but I have ibd and have since I was a child. My dr said that this can be from our bodies holding onto fat that is is unable to digest for one reason or another and then releasing all at once in a startling display. I hopethis helps as long as he isn't in pain or showing any signs of fever I wouldn't worry unless it becomes a chronic issue then he may not be digesting other things like vitamins as well. my guess is this is just a one shot thing, keep feeding him healthy food like you are but if anything else funny goes on just keep a food notebook for him and then make a regual doctors appt.
