Steroid enema not working as good as they did when i started?

I have been on steroid enemas 1 time a night for 10 days. 3 days ago I started having some bleeding, urgency, shakiness and nausia again. I had a stressful weekend but nothing really bad. It seems when I start eating regular food again I get sick again! I'm fed up & don't know what to do. I have ANOTHER GI appointment on Monday. I would like to know if anyone else has done this before & any advice would be nice. Thanks soooo much!

Hi Kgruben, while your colon is inflamed most food will probably aggravate it.
I was in you situation and ended up needing prednisone to settle things down. Mesalazine enemas were the key for my successful taper. Now eating pretty much what i like however am careful with things that give me gas. Maybe ask if you can try Mesalazine enemas?

yup, same thing happened to me, the steroid enemas worked great for the first 2 weeks and then BAM, bad again.  I switched back to tthe mesalamine enemas and improved but not to the point of remission.

i just started imuran and seem to be doing better (finally)

Thank you for the advice. I will ask my dr about imuran & a different type of enema. The asacol I have been on for 18 years does nothing now.

You're really not on a high enough dosage of Asacol for pancolitis. I would firstly request that it be upped.

Secondly, get on mesalamine enemas.

At least that's a good start.

What are you eating on a daily basis?

Are you on any probiotics?

I have been on a higher dose of Asacol before. I can afford it right now. But in September when the fiscal year starts over my deductable will go back to $1250. One prescription of Asacol will be $600 for 1 month. I can't afford that on what I make. But I am thinking about quiting my stressful job, when school starts back up if nothing changes & looking into disability. My job is what made me really sick since May and I've been sick all summer. I don't eat fruits, vegetables, anything with fiber, try to stay away from red meat, and nothing spicy or with pepper. I eat a lot of breads, noodles & soupy foods. I have been taking Florigin (not sure how to spell it.). I also started drinking Yokult.
