The Asacol doesn't digest in the stomach, so I suspect the discomfort is actually from the fact you're flaring, that you have reflux. Eating, in itself, can help stomach discomfort.
You could consider to take an OTC med such as Zantac or whatever else is considered an acid inhibitor medication or PPI.
Your doctor should have put you on a mesalamine enema and the Asacol, which should be maybe upped to 6 after your scope.
Rethink your proposed "need" for prednisone....
