Im new here. I was diagnosed with proctitus about 4 years ago and managed well with Canasa one time per day in evening. I'd flare maybe twice a year. 12 weeks ago I flared and took the Canasa for nearly month and a half with no relief. Gi doc prescribed cortifoam 12 days in and no relief actually worse. Vertigo side effect was not fun.

Now I'm on asacol two tablets in am and two in evening. I'm only on day 4 so not expecting much. Still blood and diarrhea but less frequent. I have horrible stomach pain from it. I'm taking gasx with it.

I've stopped eating much. Had some eggs for lunch. A few crackers when I take the asacol, some chicken broth. Of course, not eating means no energy.

I have a colonoscopy on Monday. Gi thinks I probably have UC now. I'm afraid to take the Asacol without food since its bothering my stomach so much. Should I just not take it until after my scope? Think the doctor will be putting me on pred after the scope anyway. Since I'm still bleeding a lot. not happy but I need this under control.

I'd love an easy diet modification to try that doesn't involve making my own yogurt. Like tell me I can eat chicken, fish, fresh vegetables raw and cooked and maybe a gluten free salad dressing? I just can't commit to anything with a lot of prep I work full time with two active boys. I barely have time to cook dinner!

The Asacol doesn't digest in the stomach, so I suspect the discomfort is actually from the fact you're flaring, that you have reflux. Eating, in itself, can help stomach discomfort.
You could consider to take an OTC med such as Zantac or whatever else is considered an acid inhibitor medication or PPI.

Your doctor should have put you on a mesalamine enema and the Asacol, which should be maybe upped to 6 after your scope.

Rethink your proposed "need" for prednisone....
