I have not heard of 'sweet tatoes', although i would certainly consider them if they can get me well!

This is my second day on the paleo diet and sweet potatoes are a staple coz they (with pumpkin) are the only starchy vegie allowed.
They are really satisfying and low GI and full of vitamin A.
Only issue is if you ear alot they can make you gassy coz they contain FODMAPS- mannitol to be specific.

I like them, but i dont know if they do anything on their own in terms of healing UC. As part of the paleo, well i have to wait and see as ive just started.

For sure. I was thinking about trying them to give me some more calories and it seemed like a good choice because they aren't as starchy as white potatoes I was thinking.

Yummy - sweet potatoes are my fave! You can cook 'em up so many different ways and have 'em sweet or savory. Good stuff right there. I usually eat them baked with a drizzle of maple syrup and a smidgen of butter or slice 'em up and bake em with olive oil, salt and pepper for sweet potato fries. But there's lots you can do. Enjoy!

How long do you bake them? Do you wrap them in foil/ bake like 350 degrees?

Yup - I wash, poke some holes in it, wrap in foil and then pop in the oven at 350 for at LEAST an hour - usually 1.5 (I like mine suuuuuper soft). ;o)

You can peel, cut up in small pieces and steam them. I like mine super soft as well. Once on the plate..Whatever you use for "butter" and salt and pepper...ooo, wonderful.

I tend to eat quite a bit of them, and I will get soft stool the next day for sure...lots of wet fibre.

I'm gonna make some sweet potato fries right now. I'm gonna coat them in a little olive oil, sea salt and pepper and bake them in the oven!!

Yum, all these delicious sounding ways of cooking "sweet tatoes". My mum usually just cuts them into chunks, sprinkles some olive oil then bakes them but I don't really like they way they taste like this. I think I'll try some of the methods mentioned above, especially the sweet potato fries... yummy!

MMMM love sweet potatoes. Sprinkle with brown sugar and you'll be in heaven :). Regular potatoes are completely different in their makeup from sweet potatoes, and are not as healthy --especially if you mash them, they become a simple sugar/starch.

I love sweet potatoes, they don't seem to be an issue for me.  They're one of the few "cheat" foods I use on my mostly-SCD plan.

Personally I like sweet potato but find it bloats my stomach out badly doesn't agree with me, but all potato are like this for me, which is a nightmare as I really like them!

One of my regrets!
I'm Canadian and I've never had the opportunity to eat poutine, and now my gut is too messed up to try!

the best stuff. It's worth eating it even if your gut is inflamed. A good poutine is divine.

My brother loves poutine but I have never been able to handle it. Sweet potatoes on the other hand....poke holes in them, pop them in the microwave for 10 minutes, mash the insides with a bit of orange juice, orange peel and cinnamon, top with melted marshmallows and toasted pecans. Yum! Siberians love sweet potatoes too! One Thanksgiving we had 6 lbs of cooked sweet potatoes disappear into two dogs.
