I guess I am the veteran of the group. I was diagnosed in 1972, 40 years. I have also been blessed with some very long remissions the longest and most recent being 9 years. I came out of that remission 3 years ago and have been dealing with my UC ever since. I have decided that now is the time for surgery. I have been researching the surgery recently and I am now in the market for a doctor in the Philadelphia area. I got some good referrals from this web site. I am happy to know that there are folks out there happy with the results of their choice of surgery. It is very scary to think about going through this type of surgery. Anyone without having to suffer like we do my not understand why we would choose this route. Well thanks for listening. I hope to be able to post my progress in this endeavor soon.

Have you picked your surgeon yet? I had my surgeries done at Jefferson University Hopsital in Philadelphia. Dr. Scott Goldstein was my surgeon. He was great and I was very impressed with that hosptial and its staff.
Sorry it has come down to surgery for you....especially after such a long remission. This disease is so unpredictable. I'm so glad I'm done with it for good. As scary as it is, you will be glad too.
