I am just wondering if anyone has had severe constipation? I have been throwing up every day for the past 9 weeks after a bout of the stomach flu. I was in really bad pain and ended up in the hospital and had exrays done and found out I was full up constipated. I had NO idea. I am not bloated no pain on a regular basis and have had no flare up of UC in a year. Now I still can't GO. Even though i am on 10 tablespoons of PEG a day. i dont eat except shreddies. I drink juice all day and night and my bowels don't seem to be working. Has anyone else had this problem?

Yep if it doesnt go down after a while it will go up!
Besides the obvious water, fiber and exercise I wouldn't know what to say.

Once ive been blocked for 7 days and every morning was wishing it would be the day. I did drink plenty of water, massages my belly, didn;t eat much, had coffee, metamucil, name it. It just wouldn't go!!!!!! Very frustrated as I'm sure you do everything you can to solve it.

I could suggest long walks but when you are blocked with UC a long walk is sure asking for trouble.

What did the doctors said? I would try some glycerin suppositories at this point. They are harmless and can help.

I never even thought of the glycerin! I have tried walking and all it does is cause HUGE pain then I have to take dilaudid. Which causes constipation. I have to do more X-rays next week and see what happens from there. I don't usually drink coffee except to go to the bathroom but the past week I have at least 1 cup a day. But no luck. PEG is like Metamucil but clear and tasteless.
Thanks for he help. I am glad tha there is someone like me out there! Mind you I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy!

Eliminate insoluble fiber from your food. Is "shreddies" shredded wheat? Cut it out.
Eat spinach (small quantities), add olive or coconut oil whenever possible.
Ask for mesalamine enemas (Rowasa brand name but available as generic), they help constipation too.
Try to eliminate dilaudid and other meds that slow your bowel down.

Thanks for the help. I am trying the suppositories. I will stop the shreddies. How long does it take for suppositories to work? A few days or hours? I don't have the box anymore as I had to use them for my son(. They didn't work on him) so I threw it out but kept the capsules. The only meds I am on at the moment are
150 mg immuran
1 mg folic acid
40 mg celexa
100 mg trazadone
100 mg losec
And magnesium

Acupuncture! Works like a charm for me when that happens on occasion.

I don't know how long it could take. I would imagine the next day cause technically you have by now material to have a bm!! It;s just the blockage you have.

I have been out for a few walks. I have done the enemas and the glycerin I have been taking the peg and drinking everything I can get my hands on. And would you believe NOTHING! Notta! This sucks. I am at the point I can eat again it all comes back up! The only good thing is I am not in any pain, no bloating or cramping. I will keep up with all the stuff mentioned above. I will keep in touch! By the way thanks to all of you for the great help!!

Oh man, I thought I was the only one who had UC and had problems with Constipation more than Diarrhea!! I actually take Amitiza 24mg once a day to combat the constipation and for me, it helps! Unfortunately, the constipation is gone but I now have constant diarrhea... But that's a whole other story!
Without the Amitiza, I had terrible constipation which would cause me severe pain and bloating. I have no idea if Amitiza would work for you, but it wouldn't hurt asking your doctor about it! But first, definitely try the natural home remedies before asking for another medication. If natural works, it's definitely the best option!

It is really great to know others that are going through the same as me. I am very alone in my world. I seems NO one understands me and why I don't like going to far from home or long car trips! Im. Ever just regular. It is either diareah or constipation. I just never experience such a long period of constipation. I will talk to my doctor about amitiza. I have never of it before. Hopefully I won't. We'd I but at least I know there is something to help. Thanks

UC is very complex and not everyone has diarrhea.

I had mainly urgency with lots of mucus, no stools.

I had lots of problems with constipation having only mucus out. But my episodes eventually resolved.

But you need to see a doctor cause like I said if you get too constipated it might go up and you might end up throwing up your accumulation.

I went to the bathroom! I went to the bathroom! I went to the bathroom! I am so happy. I actually had a BM last night. And let me tell you all. I am the happiest woman alive! Now I just have to keep it going! Yea!!!!!!!

yay!! If it continues, you may have low rectal inflammation....do you have any rectal meds you can use to see if that will improve?

Yea I have a few. I make my own but cream and it helps with the dryness, and it calms down that area. It is really great. and the doctors don't mind me using it either which is good!
