Just wanting to start an uplifting thread. You know talk about
something that has been successful, or something you did in spite of your UC. Took a long trip with no issues, ate something you miss and had no problems, Got off of ? medication you were on and had no issues. I think hearing positive things can be a great mood booster for many of us.

I'll start things off. Last night I went out and ate a chicken fried ribeye(I am in Texas lol) with Jalapeno gravy loaded mashed potatoes. I also had a couple of Martinis. It was at my favorite local little eatery. Today I have had zero issues and in fact actually only hit the can twice with no blood or anything. I'm not saying it was all good but it was pretty close. I'm still on my Pred taper(week 2) and I am feeling like it is working so far. Just doing something normal was awesome. I also did some yard work today. It was tough and really kicked my butt though. I'm still weak but getting out in the sun made me so happy. I felt normal for the first time since this all started.

I love this idea.
I traveled to and lived in Quito, Ecuador--even had my sulfasalazine (pre-Asacol era) sent down to me when I needed it.
I married a wonderful man and gave birth to two healthy children, all of whom bring me great joy.
I don't know that I can top scum1's night out--tonight I just made quesadillas and rice salad for the family and then went a soccer coaches' meeting (my son's "league", if you can call soccer for six-year-olds a "league" starts on Saturday and I heeded the call for volunteers), and yet I recognize that even being able to do that is a gift.
Great thread--looking forward to hearing other successes on all scales.

My largest accomplishment is a few years ago, me, my husband and 4 other friends took the motorcycles from my home state (MI) to Florida, stayed for a week and came back (that's approximately 2,000 miles round trip). At the time I was mildly flaring from my Uc. I had a great time! :)

This makes me smile! I am slowly coming out of the flare that started in April. I have completely been off prednisone for a month, and today the doc cut my lialda dosage in half. I've had a lot of stress lately as my firstborn (who happens to have Type 1 Diabetes) started college. Last week my husband and I drove him to Madison, unpacked him (it was 96 degrees), got him settled and on the way home stopped at Culvers for butter burgers, fries and frozen custard (the kids' meal). It was delicious..and I felt so good that my son seemed happy with his dorm, roommate..and most importantly, he was not going to let his chronic condition keep him from his dreams. I cried and prayed the week before we took him, but when the day was finally there, my UC behaved...and so far, so good. It continues to amaze me how much I learn from my diabetic son...he inspires me and makes me realize that in some way, we all have some type of chronic condition (be in physical, emotional, etc). We need to continue to fight and enjoy those good days when we get them. :)

I'm 14 weeks pregnant and my UC had been completely calm so far. I'm feeling pretty optimistic about
the rest of the pregnancy, as the huge hormone fluctuations occur in the first trimester, and I'm now into the second.

Congrats fruitgirl! I'm 18 weeks right now. :)
Well I'm happy that I have the privilege to be home when I need to, which has been the case the last 3 weeks. Very very thankful for that.
But as for normal life stuff, this last year and 8 months have been very normal for me. I love being home with my kids and also love being able to take them to town a couple times a week to go to the beach or a playground and meet our other homeschooling friends. When I can do that, any time, without worrying about
where the closest public toilet is or if there is enough room on the side of the road to pull over and use my porta potty, I'm a very happy camper.

I like the idea of this thread.
Just last Sunday me and my family went to the zoo. We were walking around there for 3 hours and I had to use the restroom only 1 time, and that was because I needed to pee :p
However, I'm still flaring so that was a pretty good accomplishment to me.

Right before I was diagnosed I spent 3 days in New Orleans. I got the scenic tour of all the wonderful facilities on Bourbon street. Taking a trip without problems is a blessing

I got married this past friday. A small ceremony at our house. My hubby's family was all there. I had a beautiful WHITE gown. I made the wedding cake and did all the flower arrangements, (We had food catered) I did extremely well no problems at all. It was the most beautiful day.

Congrats carlie and to the rest of you, small steps can be great victories.
I had a very nasty flare that lasted into this most recent spring. After finding multiple reasons why I can't travel anymore (an attempted trip last summer ended in disaster), I decided to take my family on a road trip out west to my old stomping grounds of many years ago.
We decided to tour the national parks with an option to turn back at any time (my call).
We decided to bring our own food in a cooler, eliminating junk food temptation.
Long story short, I had the most amazing trip of my life, 10 days 5 national parks, untold beauty and a major confidence builder for me.
I didn't eat much, drank plenty of water and kissed the ground when I got home, but I pulled it off!
I couldn't be happier about
it -it's the most amazing thing just to be able to live like a normal person for once.

Some happy posts are a good change of mood.
I am an outdoorsy kinda guy and I was worried I could keep up my outdoors activities given my new reality when I was 1st diagnosed with uc early this year. Seems I was worrying over nothing as the ASA 5's have kept things mostly controllable and predictable enough to keep up my activities without worrying. I've been successfully going on day-hikes, and also doing overnight backpack trips in the mountains in my home state. Also I've done a number of kayaking trips. Before starting the day's activity, I just make sure I've done a couple trips to the bathroom and that everything feels fine down there. I'm trying not to let uc take control of my life, rather I just let it delay the start of my day's activities.

I have been able to get scuba dive certified, get elected twice to Mayor, hike mountains and raise two great kids..... It's seems I'm flaring more as I get older though. The scuba thing was just last year and was even flaring slightly during my certification.

I'm leaving for a 10 day trip to Ireland a week for Saturday....so hopefully will have a happy, "incident" free post to report back. Luckily, feeling a lot better than I was a month ago so hoping that it continues!

Well back in February I made a trip to Argentina! Nuff said! :o) Barely an incident there, drank a little too much maté one day and my tummy was not happy but other than that we were all good!
I try to focus on the fact that I had the strength to do that when I am feeling bad or am in a flare. It was a huge accomplishment for me!

Awesome idea, and congrats to all of you.
For me I have been getting back in the swing of things with my workouts. I've been going strong on my journey to a healthy me, I was at my high of 315 3 years ago, and currently I'm at 225. I'm doing P90X, and kicking its butt. When I first started having this latest flare, I pushed through the best I could, but started missing quite a few days. When I was diagnosed and put on pred I was worried it would have a major effect, but I am happy to say that two weeks after diagnoses I am hitting the workouts super hard, and I'm doing even better than I did before my flare. I've also seen great things from my new diet, and have dropped three lbs this week, after a 6 month weight stall. I feel more optimistic now, and I'm ready to continue getting healthy despite whatever the next hurdle will be.

I am happy for the never ending unconditional support and love from my partner. He is always been great but since this UC has robbed us he just keeps filling the holes it leaves !!
I'm happy for the cushioned toilet seat I now have , any available places on the side of the road that I use as a "public spot" or especially business establishments that ALLOW me to use their restrooms !! my understanding work and there LOA policies that allow me to keep a job while being unable to work
I'm happy that when I feel good I am so much more grateful for health and life and the little things !!!
