my oldest was on oral antibiotics right after birth. Has been pretty healthy most of his 14 years ,no allegies,etc,

My son was two months premature, during the first 6 weeks he was given broad spectrum antibiotics on 4 occasions for infections.

He had specific antibiotics at various times until he was 8, after the last dose for scarletina he started to bleed and was diagnosed with pan colitis 3 months later.

A couple yrs ago my neighbor's 4 yr-old granddaughter somehow contracted meningitis that led to encephalitis. Her case was so severe that pediatric staff at the hospital put her into an induced coma while administering IV antibiotics. It took about a month to get her on track to recovery, & my neighbor said the doctors have monitored her digestive tract carefully since then to be sure it returned to normal functioning post-antibiotics. The word is getting out to doctors, though probably not fast enough. / Old Hat (32 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
