hi all,
after my sigmoidoscopy 4 wks ago, that said amazingly that my colon has no signs of inflammation, it looks normal. great happiness!
but I still have pain in the left side and some urgency. anyone have this? I was suspecting candida so I'm on candida diet now. thinking this candida could have caused leaky gut which in turn could have caused my numerous food allergies and therefore the pain in my left side due to bloating and gas.
well I will continue this tremendousLY Difficult diet if it kills off the systemic candida. I read tht candida could cause thyroiditis, UC, arthritis ; symptoms tht I've been having. I've been on pred for 6 months due to my moderate UC, and I heard that increases yeast . oh god so frustrating! but I'm trying to stay positive, my main problem now is arthritis pain in my hand joints and extreme lethargy.

I am having very similar problems. For quite some time now I have been having formed stools almost all of the time with no blood almost all of the time either. I have absolutely zero UC symptoms but still go about
6 times per day with a few additional trips for gas only. I don't condider myself to be in remission. I don't have any bloating or pains. I recently started an anti Candida regimen, minus severe diet changes. I have cut back very moderately on my diet but have been taking things to help with a possible Candida problem. So far I have seen definite improvements but that has happened before trying other different treatments and the improvements seem to disappear after a while. I'm hoping this time I will continue seeing improvement and if it looks like I am on the right path and I have to restrict my diet further then so be it.

hi Gary, it's good to see your reply. I'm getting confused with my health. I've been on this anti candida diet for only a week. very hard. I am eating brown rice a lot and trying to stay away from white rice completely.
I heard this candida thing can mutate and stay dormant even. but I'm doing my best to cut off its food source which is sugar and bread, white rice.
I take the following
caprylic acid capsules
VSL3
Lglutamine ( for leaky gut)
zinc/ mg/ calcium
vitamin c 1000mg
coconut oil virgin organic ( anti fungal)
when I first started diet I got really sick, pain, bad hives, delirious. not sure if its flu or die off effect of the candida. let me know of anything that's been working for u. btw, I have gyro iritis and haven't started my levoxyl yet but will in another week.

what rectals are you on exactly at this point..and the dosages/schedule?
Are you on pred still and tapering?
Do you have the biopsies results from the scope? If not..I suggest you get them.

What exactly were the results in the rectum?
Lots can change in a month...since you are having urgency, i'd suggest you start the rectal meds anyway. Do you have any?
What other symptoms such as how many bms daily?
are you on any probiotics?

hi Quincy,
actually I had worst urgency issues just the month before the sigmo, so I was expecting that I had full blown UC again, but no blood. I was on rectals, supposity and enema ( sulfite free) . then went to get the sigmo, and was really happy that he said its completely normal, he did want me to continue meds. I stopped the rectals but continued the oral meds, mesalamines. I found that my BM got better when I stopped the rectals, and urgency reduced.
I go 2-3 times a day now.
I am also continuing to follow this strict candida diet since last Friday. so no gluten, no wheat, no potato , no tomatoes, no sugars
no caffeine and no chocolate, .
I do feel less urgency though now. and I do get formed stool. the problem was I was hoping to feel completely normal like no lower left pain, no bloating, and no gas.
my main complaint as of this year which it started is arthritis pain and lethargy. my left side does hurt, but I can't focus too much on that because of the other numerous issues. I started reading about
leaky gut which makes sense to me and then the candida infestation wreaking havoc throughout the entire body causing a series of auto immune responses seems like what I'm going thru.
too many ailments to tell u, I don't know where to start. it's hard to focus on so many things.
thanks!

Yeah, the normal thing changes...we come to have a "new normal".
I'd still suggest you try some rectal med to see if you improve...maybe a steroid supp?

Mesalamine enemas definitely helped with my lingering urgency.

hi he kela, actually I found the opposite happened to me in the last month because I dint have inflammation in rectal rea. but I guess some of u r saying probably UC is coming back so I shd start. I actually think I don't have UC now but that taking the meds if I don't have it will make me feel sicker because it aggravates the candida. I read somewhere tht NSAIDS AGGRAVATE AND WORSEN candida.

So are you still taking the oral mesalamine?
The enemas might be worth a try, but I can understand not wanting to exacerbate candida.
Are you taking anything for candida or just the diet?

hi hekela,
yes I am currently taking 3 tabs of mesalamine 3x a day. I've been doing the diet and taking caprylic acid capsules. reduced NSAIDs.

When did you start the caprylic acid?
It caused me to flare when I took it, FYI.

Hey Penngurl... I have the same exact issues you have. I've been on Remicade for 9 months now, and after 2 months my doctor said my colon looked healthy when he did a flex sig. I still am going to the bathroom around 5 times per day, and have urgency more often than not.
My doctor thought my issues might be IBS issues, not UC. He suggested fiber supplements (benefiber) in the morning and evening, and perhaps accupuncture. I'm trying the fiber right now, and I think it helps a little bit.
I've also tried a seven session IBS program of guided hypnosis with a qualified professional. It helped some, not a ton. Hypnosis is supposed to be the best way to ease IBS.
I have found that taking a couple lomotil, a couple tylenol, and a tramadol all at the same time pretty much clears me for going out for most of a day now. I respond to painkillers in a way where I get energy instead of drowsiness. All together they slow down my bowels and numb all those feelings enough that I'm able to get out and do things like shopping, going on dates, and visiting friends. This doesn't always work, but it works a majority of the time. Luckily my general physician empathizes with my need for quality of life with a chronic illness, and is working with me to find ways that I can become healthier and happier for the long term.

I don't know anything about
dicyclomine really. My doctor also had put me on amitryptiline (anti-depressant), as he thought it would work with my nerves to slow down my transit time. It ended up not helping the IBS, and caused impotence in me... so that was out, lol.
I am working with my general physician on basically a whole body health focus. I am repeating the 7 session hypnosis from cd's my hypnotist made me (One hour long session every two weeks, then a 14 minute daily use recording. I am also meditating 20 minutes per day on top of that. I am using the painkillers (tramadol) to allow me to feel well enough to keep a workout routine going with weights. I'm tracking all my symptoms, and will see what is helping as time goes along.
Just fyi, I'm not sure what my pains are from. I'm having feverish feelings, low grade fevers, and body aches. I suspect it is a combination of Remicade effects as well as UC effects. Hopefully you don't have those! BUT... I do have those left sided pains still. Kind of puzzling since my UC is supposed to be in remission. Thus is the nature of things I suppose, haha.

Thoreau,
I do actually have some chills every few months, sinus problems body aches, with the annoying arthritis. I heard sometimes tat food allergies cause joint pains. and the sinus pressure could be due to candida present. And that's how I got on this candida diet now.
