i had gotten a rabbit (frozen) for my birthday a few months ago, and i've been putting off cooking it. i was just nervous that i wouldn't do it right and it would taste like poop. well, it did. i just baked it in a pan with olive oil and herbs. people have told me it tastes a lot like chicken, but that's only if you think chicken tastes like poop. the meat turned out a nice, puke gray and is the consistency of that caulking stuff you put on the driveway. the best part is that a package was ONLY $22. PAHAHAHA like i'm ever having rabbit again!

I say there should be a policy to never believe anyone who says 'it tastes like chicken.' If I was saying this to someone, I'm pretty sure it's because I'm making a joke or I can't think of what to say. Rabbit meat sounds ewww...

Eat some more gamey stuff, bananagirl, and report back....I could never do it. Your description makes me want to vomit! Where did you buy the rabbit?

I had a crepe in Montreal with rabbit. It tasted good. Not like chicken. Moral of the story? Let the pros handle the exotic/rare meats.

I went to a wild game banquet once. They had alligator, rattle snake, pheasant, wild turkey, rabbit, buffalo and few other exotic meats. Rabbit was my least favorite of them all! My mom used to cook rabbit when I was younger and I didn't like it then either! I just shudder thinking about poor Bugs Bunny lol Out of all the wild game I tried, believe it or not, alligator and rattle snake was actually pretty good :)

When my mom used to cook rabbit, she would quarter it, batter (like chicken) flour, herbs, egg wash,
then fry it (like chicken). I liked it as a child but wont eat it as an adult.

On a side note, I love deep fried alligator!

i got the rabbit from uswellnessmeats.com so i know it was good quality, just not my thing. it sucks because i was very excited to try it. i had gotten buffalo from that site and it was delicious- my filet was more tender than beef. i was going to save the rabbit bones and make bone broth but i changed my mind. i don't wanna have to force down any more rabbit!

i'm still open to trying other wild game. i like to be adventurous food. my next experiment will be duck!

Rabbit is one of my favorite meat.
You can't really roast a rabbit like youd do for chicken. Its best marinated for hours then in a stew with lovely french herbs.

Never have tried rabbit myself... but it doesn't sound very appetizing. I know my dad who grew up in the fifties and sixties would eat rabbit then. My grandparents grew up poor so they definitely were ones to make things work, and they probably had a lot of practice cooking things like rabbit. Plus, my dad and his brothers loved to hunt. The way my grandma cooks I bet she made it taste decent... but if it were puke gray and soggy like you said, bananagirl, there is no way I'd touch it! lol

I remember eating rabbit as a little girl and it seemed to taste like a real gamey chicken ... I will say that other game like venison, alligator, buffalo, emu and rattlesnake was ok ...
