Rectal polyp removed - symptoms gone

I'm so happy and I don't have anyone to share this with. So I'm posting it here.

I had a colonoscopy two and a half years ago when I was first diagnosed and my doc recommended getting one again since I'm at a higher risk for cancer. I had it done two weeks ago and he found a 13mm rectal polyp that turned out to be benign. Ever since he scoped me and removed the polyp, my symptoms are completely gone!! Apparently the polyp was causing me a lot of problems. For the first time in almost 3 years, I have no bleeding. Even when I was on prednisone I still bled. The last two days I've even gone without wearing a pad in my undies, I haven't done that in years. I have no more urgency or crapping my pants, no more gas, no more thin poop and no more disgusting bloody mucous. I feel normal and I've cried a couple of times because I feel so lucky to be normal again. I know this may not last but even if I am only normal for two weeks, it's been a great break from the horrors of UC. I love my doc and I'm so grateful I have him, the polyp could've turned into cancer if he hadn't recommended the scope. Just wanted to share my relief and happiness. I feel so lucky, I hope this lasts.

Interesting. UC is an autoimmune disease and it is very possible that you had something small there from the beginning and your body's immune system was attacking it, causing inflammation and UC. If that is the case your problem may be resolved. If you ever get UC again this would be my number one suspect, that something similar has grown back. Congratulations!

That's really an interesting concept. I hadn't thought about that. My chief complaint has always been bleeding, that's how this whole thing started. I don't think my UC is gone but I must say, I'm totally amazed at how fast things turned normal. I never expected this to happen. I'm in disbelief really.

I did not have the polyp when I was first diagnosed, at least not one that could be seen. There was a spot the doc called an irritation. He biopsied it and it came back consistent with UC. At that time I was going to another GI at a scoping mill. He had told me I didn't need to be scoped again for ten years. Good thing I didn't listen to him. I interviewed docs until I found my current doc. He's been so awesome, I'm lucky to have him.
I'm going to continue Canasa. I also just got a script for sulfite free Rowasa. And my doc wants me to take Colazal for at least a couple of months.
Every day the past two weeks I've been putting out thankful energy. I feel so lucky to feel normal again. I had forgotten what it was like.
