how to make best probiotic enema?

hi all, does anyone know how to make the best probiotic enema? not bleeding , no inflammation but have more IBS symptoms now, urgency, loose BMs . go 1-3 times a day

Don't have any advice on that but I also don't believe I have inflammation (although nobody has confirmed that) either. I have formed stools most of the time and no blood most of the time but still go several times per day. I want to know what the biology is that causes frequency. I just don't understand the biologics of why, if we are doing better, like you, we still have frequency. Don't mean to hijack your thread but maybe someone can answer both of us.

I guess my question was too vague, I was wondering how ppl make their own probiotic enema, I heard of some doing it. my theory is that it might be more effective than oral probiotics. I use VSL3, and was thinking if I can use distiller water to mix a capsule in. open the capsule and mix in distiller water? has anyone tried it. maybe I should do a search.

Gary: do u have IBS symptoms? I had sigmo done and no inflammation. I see my git doctor tomorrow and will tell him , do u take dicyclomine for preventing urgency. I don't maybe I will ask GI . I was thinking the probiotic enema might help since I'm traveling to Asia on 20 dec. did u say u have hives? I do. whenever I get sleepy I get real bad hives and it happens throughout the day since my sleep is very bad and messed p

Penn: I do have some IBS symptoms but the doctors have never addressed that. My tests and diagnosis came back UC so that is what we are treating. Sometimes I wonder about my diagnosis. My GI thought I had Crohns before the tests came back but then made UC the official diagnosis. Looking at IBS, UC, and Crohns symptoms I have some of each of them but many of all three I do not have. It is very confusing to me. Many of the standard UC symptoms I have never had, ever. My doctor gave me a prescription for Glycopyrrolate (Robinul) which is similar to dicyclomine but it did nothing for me except give me side effects. I do not have hives but have been doing a lot of research lately on histamine intolerance. I think I may have talked to you about this before. Large amounts of histamine in your body can give you hives.

As far as the probiotic enema goes I think you should probably try it if you want. There is logic to what you say. I just got some VSL in the mail yesterday and it came with a sheet stating that it does survive the stomach acid and gets to where it is going. If that is 100% true than an enema might not make any difference but I certainly wouldn't be afraid to try it. If your problem is in your colon, which obviously it probably is, it certainly can't hurt to put the probiotic right there where the problem is as long as you do it safely.

i've tried a few different probiotic enemas- just making up my own recipes.

have a fleet enema bottle handy. boil some water in a saucepan and then let it cool. then add a packet of VSL or a probiotic capsule. you can add as many as you want to get the probiotic count high. the most i did was two VSL DS packets. i also added l-glutamine and vit e oil to my enemas.

none of the enema variations i tried helped my symptoms, but i didn't get worse either. i'm sure there is absolutely no harm in trying one. i had way worse reactions to mesalamine enemas.

garyslouiseville, so let me ask again because I'm having a brain fart are you off meds completely and you're pretty much in remission or you taking the asacol in your signature line?

I'm just trying to get to get someone near no blood and no diarreah :)

I basically have no blood and no diarrhea and my signature is basically correct except I am also taking vitamin B6 once per day and the digestive enzyme diamine oxidase every meal. I have never taken any pred, immune modulators, or biologics. Unfortunately I still have 6-10 BM's per day of formed stools 90% of the time.

Gary, sounds more like IBS to me but I'm not a doctor. try to cut out the obvious foods like gluten and dairy for a few wks and see how u feel.

Maybe I should mention that at the time of my diagnosis I was having 3 bm's per day, pretty much always diarrhea and blood, no formed stools and my colonoscopy came back with a UC diagnosis. I tried cutting dairy. Didn't do anything. The path I am currently on is for candida overgrowth and histamine intolerance due to antibiotics I was on just when I started having problems. I am not on a strict diet but am taking things in connection with the two. If I notice it's helping I may formulate a more aggressive plan.

The anti candida diet says no milk, no gluten , no sugar , no white carbs le rice. I et some brown rice because I need something or I will starve. no fruits too. avocados I like a lot. nuts are ok.

I have symptoms similar to yours...mostly formed BMs with no blood.
I would have firmer BMs if I didn't take slippery elm regularly but do so because of hemorrhoids. Some days I have only a few BMs and other days several depending on what I eat.

My GI says the colitis appears to be inactive but there is still inflammation present on the left side, descending colon.
IMO the combination of diet and the presence of inflammation
contributes to the level of frequency.
Eliminating lactose and gluten makes a definite difference for me.

I think I had IBS symptoms since I was about 12 years old. It was never diagnosed but I always had issues with certain foods and could not drink alcohol without being sick. I got really sick after taking antibiotics for "gastroenteritis". When the bleeding started, I went to a GI and was diagnosed with UC.
In hindsight, I believe my condition developed slowly over many years.
UC is very frustrating because it takes a long time and a lot of trial and error to discover what works for you. Took 10 years for me to get to this stage where I feel that I'm getting some control.
