My mom has been posting about what I've been going through with my colitis. This is my first thread. Im glad shes been able to get information from you guys!

Ive been waking up the past few mornings nauseated. I don't throw up but I can't stop gagging. Ive tried zofran the first few times and it stopped helping. I've started phenegren but it's too much for me. Any suggestions? I need some kind of relief.

the gagging will remain until you get your stomach inflammation under control. i had that problem really bad and it was hard to swallow anything. it took about 3 months of zofran and prilosec every day to get my gastritis under control.

what types of foods are you eating at the moment? i know i couldn't have anything that tasted gross to me and my tastebuds were so off. everything tasted like chemicals in the hospital- such gross food. blahh.

when you can, go up to the "my profile" part of the page on the left side and fill out some info about yourself- like meds, diet, supplements. it will help us help you. it'll show up below like my info.

Oh boy, first off, I'm so sorry to hear that you're going through all of this. I remember when I was diagnosed; I was in the same situation. I can't say I handled it well because I would always end up in the ER. I think Gravol worked well for me but it made me SUPER drowsy so it couldn't function all that well. My doctor prescribed a drug called Pantaloc. Ask your doctor if it could help you. I'm going through the gagging and nausea right now as well (just not as severe as yours i'm assuming) and I think the Pantaloc is helping. I take it in the morning before I have anything to eat. Give it a go; it may help.

PS - I don't think it works all that well right away. I've been taking it for a week now and I think I'm starting to notice a difference. I don't want to sound to pessimistic but I think it may take some time for you to get the nausea and gagging under control. I know I wasn't initially consistent with the Pantaloc so perhaps that why it took me longer to feel better. Perhaps if you have better adherence to your medications, your symptoms will resolve a lot faster! :)

I'm taking Protonix and Phenergan. Maybe that combo will help my nausea. If it doesn't I will definately keep the Pantaloc in mind to ask my doctor about. I'm trying to be patient, I wiish the treatments the docs give work faster.The first time I tried took the Phenrgan it knocked me out for about 6 hours. The second time, I asked my nurse to give me half of the original dose, better but I was still pretty drowsy.

I'm going to have to try to push back all my classes next semster to be able to get to class. That's me being optimistic. I hope my conditions continue to get better so I can go to class.

dear all,

myself mite89. i am suffering from uc since two year during this period i got relief but not in stable.now i am taking ayuverda treatment there is more and more relief by this treatment i have gone through many treatment of ayurveda and allopathic. But now i got relief i am taking BILWA KUTAJ OF SURYA PHARMACY believe that it is so curable medicine in uc that have no side effect.now i am taking only this syrup.

daughter...what did the doc say is the cause of the nausea/vomitting...meds? flaring? gastritis?

in june i was hospitalized with severe upper quadrant pain, severe unrelenting constant nausea and vomiting.  everyone at the er kept saying oh its probably just a flareup of your uc, i kept saying no its not ive never felt like this before. turns out it was my gallbladder. in the hospital they gave me zofran and it did nothing, they gave me phenergan and it got rid of the nausea but knocked  me out.  i was on the protonix (iv) and phergan mix too and it did help.  but all of those symptoms werent related to my uc.  have they done any other tests on you?

soystud, yeah, my sig is current. i take a lot stuff, usually all in broken up doses though so it's really spread out through the day. iron + C morning and night, colostrum midday (all on empty stomach), asta with breakfast, fish oil with dinner, vit d with breakfast/dinner, magnesium oil on skin, kefir after breakfast b 12 shot once a week. i'm adding the supplement dr. briggs uses called interfase for biofilm buildup. it shipped yesterday so i'll add that once i start it.

IAMthe_4MyDaughter - I'm like you, phenergan absolutely knocks me out. I'm glad the half dose worked for you - if you are using the oral med, try to see if you can go down to a quarter dose. It might be the right amount to stem the gagging and also not make you sleepy.

I haven't had much problem with this kind of nausea except when pregnant. I found most relief from eating really really small meals, pretty much all day long. An empty stomach is the worst (maybe why you're having the most problems in the morning). Try to keep something by your bedside so when you wake up, before rising, have a bit to eat. Maybe a piece of bread. Maybe a bit of applesauce, or a bite of cheese.

I also drank gingerale. You can find some really good ones at Whole Foods, drinks made from actual ginger and not some factory substitute. You might try making your own ginger tea.

I found when pregnant that avocado answered a lot of prayers. It's rich and filling but not a gigantic flavor that would upset my stomach. I don't know if that is helpful for you or not.


Most of the people I know who've taken Zofran find that it works best if you take it consistently for many days.

This morning  I took half of my phenegren with my protonic and it helped with my nausea for the most part. Surprisingly it didn't knock me out as it did the first two times trying it. I still had some gagging but it wasn't as bad as it has been. I'm hoping this will stick.

quincy- the doctor didn't really go into detail with me when i was in the hospital of why i'm nauseated he kind of just gave me medicine for it.

coffee- i had an endoscopy a couple of months ago when i started bleeding again after tapering off of my prednisone the first time. after the endoscopy he put me back on the prednisone along with lialda. for awhile i was fine with just those medications.

-kazbern- thanks for the suggestions. i have seen a lot about avacados and i will definitely try it.
