How do they scope you?

There's a chance I might get a scope done at the end of the day in the OR. Can it be done without a prep?

I think they can in cases of emergencies. I hasn't happened to me but I am sure someone here has epxerience. I Hope you can get out of there soon.

They may just give you an enema or two? Not sure but I'm sure they have to clear you out at least some.

I know they like you to be cleaned out to do a scope but let's face it, many of us are regularly cleaned out anyway. Maybe that's the way they feel about you.

every time im in the hospital and they wanna do a colonscopy, they make me drink a prep... and every time, i just have my parents pour it down the sink. it is never needed in my book.

If you're flaring there is probably no need for a prep. Are you eating solids in the hospital? If not there is even less need... I've had several scopes in the past few months and my GI never had me do a prep.

That's so true, while flaring, you can't have too much in there. I am always in the bathroom and I barely eat anything.

When my son was in the hospital, they did a colonoscopy and he didn't have to drink any prep. He was having D. so I think he was cleaned out enough.

i always thought it was more for the giver handling the potentially poopy hose than the konked out reciever -

Apparently the scope itself has the ability to suck up waste on the way in. So if there are no solids in your stool anyways, I would imagine the scope can take care of whatever's in there. I, however, did the prep, so I can't say from experience.

Turned out the scope was a flex sig. The GI said he wanted to see what was happening without the prep. I got to watch. Pretty interesting. There is no dignity in this test. You get to see all these little bits o' poop and all the other junk hiding behind and around all these folds.
