I'd been in remission for a good eight months after being diagnosed last year during my pregnancy, and so I (very foolishly) stopped using my every-other-night Rowasa enemas, thinking they were keeping me from becoming pregnant again, though I didn't stop taking my Asacol (3x3 day). My plan was to begin SCD, but before i could even begin, I started flaring badly, so I started back on the enemas and got some Acidophilus capsules. I also ordered some VSL 3, waiting to get them. The enemas are beginning to help again, thank goodness, but my question is: I only took one acidophilus capsule two days ago, and my legs became so weak, like they would give out any second. They didn't give out though. I'm wondering has anyone else had this happen? Should I continue trying probiotics? Or is this a bad sign?

I've never heard that before regarding any probiotic. I believe it is due to something else.

i agree with gary. probiotics don't cause numbness. are you anemic, dehydrated, low in b-12?

I have thalassemia, which means my red blood cells don't carry enough iron, but that's always been the case. Also probably a bit dehydrated from my recent flare, so maybe that's what it's from. Last year after I gave birth and before my colonoscopy, they had me take Flagyl and Cipro to see if that helped, and I had the same reaction, although I was also flaring really badly at the time and really dehydrated.

Also when I took the acidophilus my stomach bloated out and my flare got a bit worse, but that's normal right? It gets worse before it gets better? Or am I way off here?

that seems like a really tough disorder to have. i've been anemic for a long time now so i always contribue any weird symptoms to that.

i just started acidophilus yesterday- 1 capsule with breakfast. i didn't notice any bloating but everyone's different with probiotics. did it have other ingredients in it that could bother you? i follow scd, too, so that's one of the recommended ones. i used to take vsl #3 but never really noticed a different- and it's not scd legal because of the fillers and high bifida content.

Is acidophilus with pectin scd legal? I wonder if my prenatal is legal. It's the only one that didn't make me nauseous, so I hope so. Just started scd today, cooking up the soup right now :-) I did Medifast diet before I had uc, just before I became pregnant, and it's very similar to scd but only 800 calories, no fruit, basically almost Atkins, and I had no problem sticking to it so I know I can do it. First week was so hard though, my mind was in a fog. Not looking forward to being a weird airhead lol. Getting my yogurt maker delivered tomorrow too. I hope this works!!

I take Acidophilus with no problems. I take mine in the evening after dinner. I used to take it in the morning but I did feel kinda gassy so I figure better in the evening to sleep it away. Introduce it slowly meaning don't double or triple the dose right away. I take two a day but if I am on antiobiotics I take 2 twice a day.
