Asacol - tired side effect?

My 10 year old son is on Asacol (3 - 3 x day so 9 total) down to 35mg/day prednisone, multivitamin, calcium, VSL3, prescription Prilosec...

He is super tired especially after he takes his meds, he is happy and has energy then take his pills and is so tired... he is also very constipated currently (1 hard BM every 2 days) I hate to complain since we had it so bad the other way but what meds do you think is causing this and any suggestions for what we can do? He has a dr. appointment on Thursday but I just thought if there is something we can do sooner...

The prednisone tapering is probably making him tired.

or low iron which seems to be common with UC.

You should talk to his dr about the constipation. How much calcium is he taking?

If it were me, it would be the multi vitamin. Try some added fiber in the form of fiber rich foods. I eat activia yogurt and all natural applesauce for breakfast every day and that helps keep me regular.

He is on 1200mg of calcium per day (600 in the morning 600 at dinner). I will ask about getting his blood work checked this Thursday. Anything else they should check as long as they are sticking him? It is odd, he has tons of energy wakes up happy and giggly then takes his handful of meds and boom is so tired same thing at night when he takes them. I don't know about the mid-day ones now because he is at school. I will watch him today but that is just Asacol vs. bunches of stuff.

Low iron has some other symptoms that you might see, if that's the problem...it could be caused by something else, but this was my experience. Here is a link:
