I am a breastfeeding advocate and see nothing wrong with trying breastmilk, especially if one's own. Who knows it may help. I read that it can be protective against developing UC later in life, sadly it did not protect me ( I was a breastfed baby until 1 year old) and from reading a previous thread several UCers here were breastfed too. I do hope there is some protection against UC for the sake of my kids, both of them were breastfed. My diagnosis came while breastfeeding my youngest and I had been flaring for a while. I guess your body being able to make breastmilk and assuming it has all of the wonderful components, nutrients, enzymes, antibodies, beneficial bacteria, even stem cells, is no guaranteee that your own body could use those components to fix itself. Did my body somehow decide they were put to better use giving them to my kids? I couldn't argue with that one, or maybe nothing in that breastmilk could fix UC. I also wonder if us UC moms have the same bacterial diversity and antibodies in breastmilk compared to non UC moms.
