I have to wonder if the dalai lama was using the royal "we" or just referring to his devoted followers - because I don't think the world in general has learned this at all. Not one bit.

I think your thinker is broke today Stereo. I was noway nohow analyzing faith. I was making a somewhat pessimistic statement that most folks I see (and hear about) have not learned lessons about inner peace. So, I speculated who was the "we" in the dali lama's statement "... we have learned ..."

But, if you prefer less speculation (least it be confused with analysis), I could jsut say:

"Bullcr*p. That may be true, and I may agree, BUT the dali lama must be smoking something if he thinks humanity has learned any such thing. Humanity mostly remains very stupid."

There Stereo, would that offer less offense to your analysis-phobic soul?

I might also thank you not to suggest I am "analyzing faith" when I am not doing any such thing.

The very first few words should clue you in as human beings <--- we.

I'm unaffected by your pessimistic point of view regarding humanity. I sometimes have the urge to wash my eyes out with soap when I read of your condescending remarks, but I won't go so far to make a statement on how stupid humanity is, from the seat of one person.

I'd say the OP's quote from Dalai Lama is philosophical rather than religious faith...although religions do preach the same philosophy...it's many times contingent on what culture one is born into and what one ultimately believes.  It also takes work.

We live in a very selfish world...even if the world ended tomorrow, the start of a new one would eventually morph into the same thing.

Humans give the words meaning...subjectively or objectively. Depends on what the end result needs to be.   It also depends on the teacher of the message.

My quote of late is.....one's experience is only as good as those you have it with. (excuse the bad grammar).

lol, well I kinda have UC, so makes sense I'm here.

I go on the ostomy from time to time, but I hate going there. Makes me a sad puppy.

How are you doing these days?

LOL, I know. I was just sad that I don't see you very often anymore, now that we're on different boards. I will probably stop even frequenting the ostomy board now that I don't have an ostomy. I still go to j-pouch.org occasionally, but when I get back to work and *life*, I'll probably stop frequenting the boards altogether... Will try to come back every once in a while just to say hello and reassure people that surgery works if and when it comes to that, but it's kinda sad that I don't come here anymore since I feel like I've made friends here who have helped me through some pretty hard times. It's just sort of hard to come back and read about all the suffering when I'm no longer suffering from it, you know? Just brings me back to a time that I don't want to live through again.

How am I doing? Well the post-op complications are slowly clearing up. Diet restrictions are just now lifted, so I'm *slowly* starting to eat fruits and veggies and whole grains again. J-pouch is functioning beautifully... unless I gorge myself on chocolate, LOL, which I have done a lot of, eating up all my Christmas candy. But otherwise I have total control, zero anal leakage, can pass gas whenever I want to, no pressure, no pain, no urgency, and regardless of what I eat my frequency tends to stay between five and ten times a day, though a few days ago I only went three times in twenty-four hours. Typical is six or seven. When I eat a lot of chocolate (a little is okay) or drink alcohol or coffee, that's when I get symptoms like higher frequency, butt burn, urgency, and pressure. But I think even that will die down over time. I'm only six weeks post-op, and only about two and a half weeks of digesting solid food, so I'd say I'm doing pretty well!

P.S. - Sorry for hijacking the thread for a minute!!
