In flare since Thanksgiving. Using Hydrocortisone and Mesalamine enema 1X a day each. Just had a course of Amoxycillin for a week for dental extraction and since then my tongue is white. Scraping doesn't really help. I am taking half sachet of VSL#3 DS daily. I suspect its fungal growth as a result of Hydrocortisone and Amoxycillin.

What do you guys think?
Any idea of S. boulardii supplementation will work? (I plan to buy http://www.amazon.com/Jarrow-Formulas-Sacharomyces-Boulardii-Capsules/dp/B0013OVW0E, any other recommendation?)

Antibiotics will do that to you. Try loading your system with good bacteria again. Homemade Yogurt?

it does sound like thrush. i can't count how many times i've had it. i used to get it a lot from my asthma medications.

i've taken sacro b. for a yeast infection and that cleared it up in 3 days. i had gotten it after i was on flagyl.

Yeast!! Usually if it gets to that point, it will require more than probiotics to get back to normal. I've never had thrush but I've had yeast infections :(

A white tongue can be normal for a lot of reasons. Usually if I get thrush I have more symptoms than just color. They'l be more like patches or sores rather than just coloration. Also you may feel like there is always something on the back of your tongue and you can't swallow it. Otherwise a whitish tongue is almost nothing to worry about.

A doctor can tell more precisely if he were to take a look at it. I can never get that to go away without treatment. Yogurt doesn't have enough live bacteria and any relief with yogurt is very short lived.

And btw, thrush is a yeast infection of the mouth.

I had this when I was loaded with IV pred. It dissapeared within a week. Listerine helped get rid of the nastiness.

Thanks for the idea. Honestly, I hate all alcoholic products on face and in mouth. I can't stand the irritation. I usually dilute Listerine 1:2 proportion, still end up drinking water within 10 minutes of gargle.

Is it all throughout your mouth or just on your tongue?

Some medications can certainly add to dry mouth.

Some toothpastes can make it worse.

You brush and scrape your tongue?

Try using Caprylic acid liquid (comes mixed in sunflower oil)..the one I use is called Caproil. I get mild yeast in the back of my throat from the steroid inhaler if I've had to up it. It works well.

Its only on tongue. I use Sensodyne (because I developed teeth sensitivity last year, probably Pred effect). I do not brush my tongue but do scrape it.
I will look into Caprylic acid liquid if nothing changes in 3 more days.

Funny I'm just getting this also. Even some very slight soreness and bleeding on my tongue. It's got to be either the hydrocortisone or the probiotics. Off to look for some of that beneficial yeast today I guess.

Sounds like oral thrush. Prescription for Nystatin mouthwash does the trick. :)

you could also try using hydrogen peroxide as mouth wash. i've done this for years, especially when i have acid reflux/vomit problems because it makes my mouth taste like butt.

and yes, delta. i was taking renew life's sacro b. it's called immune defense i believe.

     Ditto...thrush.  I had it three times when I suffered with UP.  Not exactly sure what caused it though...prednisone, antibiotics?  I was taking so darn many meds it could have been anything.  There are lozenges you could take, I cannot remember the name of them, but they dissolve in the mouth.  Not the best tasting thing in the world but it did the trick.  I am sure someone in here knows the name.
